Please, oh please, don't do anything stupid until the season is over and we have actually won something/anything that matters.

To understand where we are as a program, in this season.

We have not been tied or behind in the 4th quarter in conference this season.

Murderball indeed

Really need to hang on to Moffitt.

Maybe we have learned our lesson about massive guaranteed contracts. Something longer term that we have with higher guaranteed salaries, but with larger performance bonuses would be ideal. Enough security in the long term salaries to keep them less likely to jump, but not fully guaranteed to lead to complacency.

We obviously want to keep him but its not gonna be about the money. I don't think it will really come down to what A&M offers him - what he does will be determined mostly by what finally happens at LSU when the dust settles.

How much of a raise does Elko really need?

Due to his heavily incentivized contract, if he does as well as we would like him to do this year, he will be one of, if not the, highest paid coaches this year.

Extension with some bumps in the outer years might be warranted. But the last thing we need is another Jimbo boat anchor contract.

Taking care of his assistants and staff would also be warranted to keep people Elko wants to keep.

Agreed that would be ideal in theory from our perspective, but I don't believe that is practical. Nothing may be announced or approved by the BOR until after the seasoon, but Elko will absolutely be offered a raise amd extension as well as opportunities at multiple other schools his agent can use as leverage. From what I know of Elko, I doubt he's personally spending much time on it other than giving his agent a list of wants that probably include more NIL warchest, more money to retain assistants, and, as any of us would, as much for himself as the market will bear. I'd be shocked if his agent is not in active discussions with Alberts and at least 1 or 2 other schools. We'll either announce new contract terms (which I strongly expect and definitely hope) or another school will announce him as their new coach within a few days after the season. But the negotiations and all but final decisions will have been made before that.

I always thought of his current contract as almost a trial run that was heavily incentive-laden to see if he was ready for this level. He is. Regardless of what happens the rest of the year, he will have a much better contract as soon as it ends. I for one hope it is with us.

in any other season maybe that makes sense, but with this many high profile jobs open I would rather put a bow on this

Elko is going to get a raise, but I don't think he's a realistic candidate for any of the big openings. Those schools aren't going to wait for us to be done with the playoffs

Maybe Elko would prefer to wait. If we keep producing like we have, his value increases each week. He's a smart man and knows the potential that exists right where he is.

I see people say this but has there been any indication at all he wants to go back to BR? It's not his alma mater. I get he was there for a while but he doesn't have any relationship with the existing leadership and my understanding is he reached out to Elko about the A&M job.

He and his family are here in Texas. His wife just moved here after being in North Carolina for a year while their daughter finished high school. He was asked on the radio show toward the end of October about taking another job, Elko said ask the boss lady, to which she yelled, "We aren't going anywhere."

Doesn't his parents and other family live in Florida (according to the call in show every Wednesday)? So not sure how much direct family he still has in the Jersey / Penn area.

He's been at A&M for 6 years. He knows the current high school landscape. He seems to really embrace the 12th Man and loves the support he gets. His resources and funding are some of the top in the nation. He has mentioned before the craziness of having to start over and rebuild in such a short time - he already went through that process here and has the machine humming now.

I just don't see him leaving. I also don't see big money Ags not ponying up to match whatever is being offered - especially after one of the best seasons we've had in over 30 years in his second year here as head coach.

Never say never, but I think he stays put.

He also really seemed to enjoy / took it personal in beating LSU this year. Maybe that was just because of Brian Kelly since he's the one that fired Tommy. He also said that he's looking to buy a house in College Station, so that bodes well - not that it can't be sold, but at least shows that he's good with staying.

While I like what Elko has accomplished I do have a concern about the general appearance of our performance so far. Let's finish out and then the BMA's can throw their money at whatever.

Opponent Win Pct.

The odds makers have Elko going there as a longer shot than Brian Kelliy going there.

It is crazy that they would leave themselves so exposed at +1600 for the person that is the "literal number #1 choice"

Nobody is going to leave one of the best things for a step down to an unknown, much less Elko. He's here for the long haul. Put the farm on it.

Not pretending to know anything about his family, and don't know if it's true but I've heard that his family (wife & kids?) are still in Baton Rouge. I think he has 3 sons and they are all grown. I think his wife went to LSU and at least one of his sons did as well.

Something would have to go horribly wrong for Elko to leave, like monumentally stupid decisions by those in power or an all-time Aggie November meltdown.

If they let what happened with Fisher and Sumlin affect this process to the point of losing Elko, then they're going to lose a lot of fans, myself included.

Bama waited until after the playoffs for DeBoer. If a school wants a certain coach they'll wait. It might cost them 1 year of being mediocre but year 2 could be a different animal. Just look at what Elko has done. I'd beat that Trev is in talks with Elko's agent. I know I would be.

They didn't wait. They had agreements in place already.

His contract auto extends a year if he hits any of his bonus performance metrics. And that will happen with a trip to the SEC Championship or playoff appearance. So 90%+ likely to happen.

Now it could be argued that he would probably prefer a raise of sone sort as even if he wins it all and hits all his addition performance bonuses he still wouldn't be paid as much as some of the other coaches are guaranteed per year. Which I probably wouldn't be happy about if I was him. Kind of defeats the point of a lower base and performance based contract.

But I'd also wouldn't even think about asking for a raise until the season is done and I have the skins to do so.
