If you are a DL, especially and edge I would think A&M would be a prime place to go. NIL is short term money, if you think you have NFL talent that paycheck is far greater to risk. Not concerned about filling the spot but just strange.

Part of the process. You don't stop going after elite talent no matter where it is, but it's hard to keep a commitment from a top target when they have elite in state programs and nearby programs as well.
It's not fools gold, but harder to keep a commit from FL, Ga, Bama, Ohio, La., etc.

But Auburn is currently on fire. Anyone who legitimately wants to go there over here clearly has little ambition to win something while in college. Just make as much NIL then try and get to NFL.
