There's a reasonable chance we're either 1 or 2.

We have a better SOR than either OSU or Indiana, with two huge road wins.

But we still have this weekend which may change things for them.

My guess is either 2 or 3 (basically a coin toss), with an outside shot of that #1 spot.

I think #3 with a small chance at #2. The love affair for OSU and Indiana is going to be hard to overcome.

3 would be my guess assuming no big surprises at the top this week. Maybe 2. Hope it's not 1.

I'd be surprised if Ags weren't in the top four, but it could be any of those four spots. My bet would be the top three match the AP with maybe GT at #4 - provided they win this week.

2.

Arguably should be 1, but this is same group that put Ohio State in playoff during covid when they didnt have enough games played to really qualify for consideration and in same breath said if Ole Miss/Aggie would have beem played and Aggies had another win that may have made the difference. (Side note, another reason to dislike Ole Miss pulling out of that game, just play with small number of guys and lose)
Nothing looks more foolish than tradition to those who have none.

If they use strength of opponent like they are supposed to then #1.

1-4 get a bye. If we can win out, we'll have one of those spots. If we lose even one game, there's almost no chance get one of those spots. Being counted out and underrated has proven to be good luck for us.

After we got left out in 2020, and sip got in over fsu in 2023, all at the whim of Disney, there's no way they'll allow us to be construed any higher than #3. I mean, the fact that we have to even guess at our ranking tells you how much subjectivity they reserve the right to enact (spoiler: "as much as it takes to get our guys in there").

It needs to be one if we are #1 in SOR and undefeated. Otherwise Sankey sucks eggs.

I think we will be ranked No. 3 in the first CFP rankings because it's hard to overcome the love affair for Ohio State and Indiana.

Ohio State played in only 5 regular season games before the 2020 Big 10 Championship Game. Big Ten Conference rules established before the season specified that teams would need to complete at least six conference games in order to be eligible for the conference championship game. After Ohio State's game against Michigan was canceled, and Ohio State having only completed five games, the conference voted to change these rules and allow the undefeated Ohio State team to represent the East Division. The conference cited the fact that Ohio State would have won the division with either a win or loss against Michigan.

I hated how our 2020 home game against Ole Miss was postponed several times before it was ultimately cancelled. I think we would have beaten Ole Miss, finished with a 9-1 regular season record, and likely gotten the last playoff spot.

I don't think there is any way Indiana will be ahead of us or Ohio State, but if they somehow are, then that would be kind of my indication that all bets are off and we have no idea what they are going to do to pick/seed the playoffs.

If the decision is made by the same guys who do the power rankings, then we'll be an 8, behind sips at 7.

my bas agrees. This is insurance for Bama beating us. Keeps us from getting a bye. Supposedly the committee no longer penalizes losers of conference games. So if Ags are #4 or better and lose to Bama, we should still get the bye.

The committee argued, or at least that was one scenario ESPN mentioned, that our playoff game was basically when we played Alabama; we lost it; so why should we be given a 2nd playoff game?

Note: This metric will not apply to Notre Dame this year; their losses to potential playoff teams Miami and A&M will not be held against them. Quality losses!!!

if the bracket set up is 1 plays 4 and 2 plays 3, I think it will be the following, since they will all play each other in the Conf championships and it avoids repeats in playoffs.

OSU
Indiana
A&M
Alabama
