So when do we announce the extension?

Gotta give Elko credit for playing chess when we've all been playing checkers. I don't think that I could've imagined a world where BK got fired today if we L$U, but credit to him for seeing the writing on the wall and GUARANTEEING that raise and extension. I was thinking it was likely but now it's for sure happening in this bye week stretch or he's probably gone. When do you think it will be announced? Who even comes close to being as attractive of a candidate?

Not my money but if it were, I'd increase his base a little and increase his assistants a good amount and increase bonus incentives a lot. We have the resources to help you achieve our goals and if you do you will be one of if not the highest compensated. But you have to earn it unlike Jimbo.

Hopefully use the off week to get deals done and then announce it next weekend. Keeps the rumor mill from becoming a distraction during the championship run.

I still like the incentive/bonus based compensation.

If you haven't read Mike Elkos contact take the time to do so. The incentive based pay AND built in extensions are well done

Kind of damn if you do damn if you don't. But waiting until end of the year to get this done will have us looking for a HC as well. Too many universities with big money looking right now to sit back an wait.

No extensions ever again. Raise salary.

This. Bump his base within reason, and give him crazy incentive bonuses.

Not up to me.

But there is no doubt in my mind that the powers that be are going to have to open their wallets and pay Elko more money. Too may big name schools with pocketbooks are looking for coaches.

Do the Ags pony up the cash for the coach that has had the best start since 1992?

(I think they do, btw)

Of course you do, but Elko will say FU. There are plenty of schools out there that will guarantee him almost twice what he's making now.

Well yeah, it's not our money, so why should we worry as long as it's not a ludicrous deal?

How mad would you be if Elko announced he was leaving for LSU? Mad as HELL.

Pay the man even more. Period. No questions about Elko unlike Jimbo.

The market dictates these things. We would end up paying more for another coach that may or may not work out.

At some point in this season we may have to pay him like a top 5 coach in the country because as of this week he is legitimately in that range. Hopefully someone else doesn't beat us to the punch. We've been wandering in the woods since the 90's looking for a coach who can win. I feel like we have the right guy and I don't want to spend the next two decades looking. He can recruit, he can manage NIL and the roster and he has proven he can win.

Plus don't people remember how this goes. You don't get to enter a negotiation. When a coach leaves he makes an announcement and packs his stuff. Does anyone remember the baseball fiasco?

Totally agree. This is a completely different market than when we were dealing with Jimbo, and we know Woodward has no problem handing our guaranteed contracts left and right. Now multiply that by 5.

Do I prefer our current structure, you darn right I do, but when market changes you can't just stay stubborn. That what got Jimbo fired. You have to adapt and come up with a creative solution. With Penn State and UF, they could've waited until seasons end, but st this rate, Auburn and OK ain't far behind, so better to rip the band aid and get something ok than terrible. Even if Elko is a "good guy", no way his agent will let him not get the best deal as the best perceived available coach our there.

I'm sure we'll find some thing that frustrate us about Elko, but he's the best coach I've seen for a team I root for in my lifetime.

I really don't want us to loose Elko, but these enormous contracts with insane buyouts have to stop. If everyone on here was guaranteed generational wealth regardless of how you performed at your job, 99% would stop working very hard. I have no problem with us offering incentives that give Elko the chance to make more money than any coach has ever made, but he has to earn it.

We can set our own market.

The new CFB coaching era is upon us. What HS or CFB player even knew his name b4 this season?

Despite that, he is recruiting elite HS and Portal. He's closing the deals, but we are money whipping the rest of CFB.

He wouldn't have the success w/o the resources we have and he knows it.

I'd be shocked if they don't already have something agreed to. I think Elko wants to be here but his value has gone up quite a bit in this market so he's going to get a raise. Maybe they'll announce it once we secure our spot in the SEC championship game.

We still need to take care of business over the next 4 games. Missouri is a good team. SC isn't a bad team, and Sellers can be dangerous. tu sucks, but that game is always a wildcard. Those are all must win games if we want an SEC championship.

We're on our way and making good time, but we aren't there yet. Once we have hardware and a playoff spot, then we can start talking about raises and extensions.
