The governor is involved because LSU budget is tied directly to the state budget. If you remember, that's one of the reasons Woodard went back to LSU after they were getting rid of Orgeron They were in a big financial bind and needed to be able to do more with less. That school does not have the money everyone thinks it does. This $52 million is going to hurt.

If anything, this will speed up Florida if they're going to make a move for Franklin.

Also, LSU has no President at the moment. I believe the governor legally operates as the President of the University when this is the case.

Honestly, what big time coach wants to coach there in this era of college football?

Their expectation is an SEC Championship or a national title run every year. Now with NIL, schools outside of Louisiana are able to snag Louisiana recruits that would have traditionally gone to LSU and waited for their turn. That's not the case for them anymore.

I feel like NIL changes that equation somewhat. Louisiana kids aren't necessarily going to stay with LSU all 4 years and the investment in the program is pretty similar.

Given that lsu is an elite academic institution it would make sense for them just to drop football altogether and concentrate on their prestigious rigorous curriculum

In comparison to its neighbors, La definitely projects the illusion of being cash poor. Having spent time there managing aspects related to off-shore oil field services...one lesson I learned first hand was the total number of parties involved in a deal and who some of one's partners were was a deliberate mystery wrapped in a matrix to the point of being a convoluted enigma. I'm certain it was vey crowded under any table when deals were made. Total costs and true net profits are probably not known by key players.

I suspect LS & U's capitalization, budget, etc. are in constant flux and greater than most of us imagine.

Was elated to have received an offer to return to Texas.

They are almost exactly equal in athletic revenue. Florida obviously a better school in every other regard.
