Me and my girlfriend, both students, are heading down to Death Valley tomorrow. One, this has been my bucket list stadium and glad I can do it my senior year. We are staying in port Allen. What restaurant locations do yall recommend, preferably Cajun. Also, where could some a&m tailgates be before the game?

Also any tips are welcomed. We have a fraternity tailgate invite at lsu, not sure how the students are going to like it, so any tailgating areas we should check out that aren't students are welcomed.

Been discussed here a few times, but I'll chime in (again):

If you're a homegrown Texan (so consequently know what good Mexican and Tex-Mex is) DO NOT go to Superior. Locals think it's the best, but they think if you put sub-par fajitas on every dish, it constitutes as Mexican food.

Chimes would be the low/ entry level place to go for OK local/cajun food.

Parrains is a good step up from there, but could be a rough wait at certain times. Great gumbo and catfish atchafalaya.

For a unique spin on Cajun infused food that my wife and I really enjoy, try Building 5 in downtown. They rotate their menu, but the gumbo is always on it and is excellent.

While in town either pick up some world class boudin to take home from Jerry Lee's, or get it on your way home from Billy's in Scott, La (and don't forget to get a pepperjack boudin ball for the drive).

I shouldn't know this much about the area but my wife grew up in BR and family still lives there, so I'm there 3-4 times a year.

Mike Anderson's for dinner.

Keep your head on a swivel in Port Allen.

Don't leave anything in your car that you don't want stolen.

Gigem and have a blast.

I'll second his Mike Anderson's recommendation and warning about safety in Port Allen, with the only exception being that Port Allen's safety isn't unique to any areas near the river.

Go to Coffee Call for beignets and coffee. They are awesome! Way better than Cafe du Monde

The Chimes right by campus on game day is a lot of fun.

I think we are going to Phil's oyster bar for lunch tomorrow and Mike Anderson's for dinner.
Bayes is also an oyster bar in Downtown BR that is a really nice spot.

Coffee Call for beignets.

EDIT: I would also add Parrain's to the dinner considerations. Small menu but everything is solid.

The Chimes and the and the area around can get pretty packed on gamedays and game nights. Saw some video from game days this year, and there's been more of a block party atmosphere than I've seen in years past.

Something to keep in mind for parking and travel times too.

I'm not familiar w/ either of those, but Don's Specialty Meats in Scott is a pretty popular stop with a huge selection.

Best Stop in Scott also has a good reputation, but it's a little further off the interstate.

Port Allen is rough. As stated, don't leave anything in your vehicle. Don't mess around in the parking lot. Park, grab your stuff and get inside. No jamming out to your favorite song or burning one last cig. Nobody is going to knock on your hotel door for anything you want. The desk would call you if they needed you. Anybody else is trouble. Or a hooker.

Have fun!

To add on this, Kartchner's in Scott is also good. If I remember correctly, it's the same direction as Best Stop, but a little bit closer. I tend to prefer stopping there.

If they go to New Orleans, I would also say it's worth popping into the Hotel Monteleone and having a drink at the Carousel Bar.

Billys, Dons, Best Stop and Kartcher's are all on the same exit. No reason to not hit all 4.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Also had no idea port Allen was so bad, that's good to know.

What's best way to get out of stadium? Considered buying last minute tickets but when I went in 2021 I remember it being a nightmare to get an uber out of the area. Parking passes are min of $500 right now

I'm not familiar with the area but from all the comments, it sounds like you should think about your girlfriends safety and look for somewhere other than Port Allen to stay.

Man, if that is the same Superior Grill as in Shreveport, as a native West Texan, those were some of the best fajitas I've ever had, I thought that place was great. Their margaritas were also top notch. I also lived there like 14 years ago, so maybe its gone down hill.

But you have to be able to maintain a full court press if you go to Mike's?!?

Also, be advised.

Fording the MS River on I10 can be a traffic nightmare...
