10th seems fair for who we've played and how we are playing.

So we're offended by computer models now? The level of little man syndrome on the Zoo is off of the charts.

Tech lost to ASU, who lost to MSU, who we blew out. But yeah no bias there!

If you win every week rankings don't matter .

Utah and no BYU … how in the hell do they come up with that? Not to mention ignoring our head to head win at Notre Dame

The point is why is Notre Dame 4 if we are 10 and Miami is 7

Hey, computer models are for the BCS era. That's why you had Florida State play in the National Championship game against OU instead of Miami, a team that they beat. If Miami would have played, OU would have been blown out.

Computer models have "bias"

It's coded into the algorithms. Whatever weight a developer gives some factor or another in coming up with a "score" is the bias.

It's just consistently applied is the only difference in the model's bias and some persons bias.

1. These rankings don't tend to actually use wins and loses because those aren't great predictors.
2. Our win over ND was razor thin and many other games have been played since.
3. It's not at all unreasonable to think that ND would have a good shot at beating the Ags if they played again.

All this really means we have to beat LSU senseless this weekend for the team, the fans, and my sanity.

This seems about right to me. Play the ND game ten times and we might win a couple. We were lucky in addition to being good when it mattered. Boerkircher could never catch another ball and he's a hero.

Most sane Ags would agree we're definitely not the third best team. But we're 7-0 and we're happy. It'll be hard to find our way to 8-4, this could be a special season.

We could actually win something and I'll have to change my handle!

Its not unreasonable that a top 15 team doesnt beat any top 15 team.

The question is does the "higher" ranking team lose? How you have 2-loss teams ranking above those that beat them is a travesty.

It's a predictive model, not a ranking of achievement. ND would be favored tomorrow against A&M and Miami in almost every model.

Offended? No. But we can point out that some computer models use inputs that make them worthless.

I really can't stand it when Aggies post from an "objective standpoint" and write ridiculous things just to appear unbiased.

Like saying #10 seems like a fair ranking considering who we've played.

We have one of the best wins of the season for any school - and then played real teams after that.

Unlike Indiana.
Unlike Tceh.

Do you think in 2012 Florida should have been ranked ahead of the Ags because they won in the second game of the season?

Doesn't mean a computer model is biased. It is a model based on statistics (analytics), like the models used by bookmakers to do the spreads.

Just because a model may predict Team A to beat Team B using statistical methods doesn't mean that outcome in the actual game is a done deal. If that was the case then Sports Gambling would not be a viable business.

****ing nonsense.

We gifted them a punt block TD and played one of our worst defensive games of the year, not because they did anything special, but because we lost edge contain against RB's.

Play it 10 times at neutral site, we win at least 5, maybe more.

Because they may very well be the 4th best team in the country. Game results can vary. What if we played them again in two weeks? Would our week 2 win mean we would automatically beat them again?

Didn't Notre Dame lose a total head scratcher last season?
TyperWoods

Without personal bias.

But there is bias in the parameters of whatever the computer looks at and the weight given.

Garbage in, garbage out.

You only get 1 chance and A&M won the game. That doesn't mean A&M gets automatically ranked ahead of Notre Dame no matter what but they should be right now since they are undefeated and Notre Dame has lost twice.

I like that we are constantly undervalued and overlooked.

Every game since ND we have been a pretty popular upset pick.

We just have to keep proving them wrong.
halfastros81
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's a fair point you are making. Oregon hasn't beaten anyone really good altho we thought State Penn was at the time , certainly no one as good as Notre Dame . They are 6-1 tho and I don't think you can honestly argue winning at Oregon wasn't a high quality win.
