Not in terms of accomplishments, this is only his 4th year as a head coach and he hasn't even had a 10 win season yet...obviously we hope that changes this year.

Alright let's start with his first job at Duke accomplishments:

First Duke Coach to ever win 9 games in his first season. Ever. (previous year they won 3 games)

Won ACC Coach of the year in first season (never done at Duke and only second ever coach to win the award at Duke)

He completely turned their defense around in every statistical category from some of the worst in college football to top 50.

He left Duke with a .64 winning percentage. Duke has had less than 18 winning seasons since 1945. Elko owns 2 in his two years there.

GTFO of here with no accomplishments.

And both those seasons, the refs gifted UNC the game against Duke. So his first season should have been a 10-win season.

Im sure this was said about James Franklin, and Sark too.

And they had wins in the CFB Playoffs...

James Franklin arguably still is one of the ten best coaches in college football. I'm not sure that Penn State remains as an almost-guaranteed annual playoff contender unless they hit a home run on this hire.

James Franklin was 4-21 against top 10 teams. According to google this is a winning percentage of .160 which is tied for the third-worst for a coach with a minimum of 25 games at one school since the AP poll era began.

Not everything is W/L record in a vacuum when gauging how good or bad of a coach someone is, especially if you're only looking at Top 10 matchup record.
Franklin is a good coach.

Not picking a fight, but by what other metric would you gauge a 'good coach'?
This isn't 1943…..building a culture is great and all, but if you can't follow that up with W's, that culture won't last long.
He doesn't regularly bring in top 5 recruiting classes, either.
So again, by what metric are you gauging him as a good coach?
Genuinely curious.

I would look at him going 11-2, 10-3, and 13-3 in the last three seasons in a conference not named the Big 12 and call that pretty f'in good. People would be doing backflips off of Kyle Field if we could even sniff that kind of success

Those records are good, and in a good conference.

But if he is so good of a coach, why was he 4-21 against top 10 teams? He could never win the big games…period!

At first, yes, Aggies would be doing backflips, but they also would get tired of not beating the top teams on their schedule. If LSU and Texas were consistently good and top 10 teams year after year, and A&M went 10-2, 10-2, 10-2 and those were their two losses, the BMAs would start talking and want the head coach out. Bottom line. They would say, can't win the big one…can't beat the rival…need a change

One could argue that R.C. Slocum was our James Franklin. And who did we replace R.C. with? How did that work out?
I would agree and wouldn't be surprised if that is where their program is headed. Especially in this era with a the amount of financial repercussions headed their way with this decision.
It's your duty as an American to own a gun...and know how to use it.

Ultimately, a coach will be judged by number of rings. However, I witnessed first-hand the years of frustration and disappointment in the 70-90s as Nebraska would win 9-10 games, only to lose to Oklahoma and/or lose their bowl game. Tom Osborne was a very good coach for the 22 seasons prior to his first of three national championships.

And a Tom Osborne, a Bobby Bowden, and a Joe Paterno would not coach past year 10, even with a high winning percentages, because they hadn't won a national championship until way past 10 years in coaching. None of them could win the "Big Game" when they first starting coaching.
