Are those incentives given at each level or tiered? I'm trying to understand if we win the SECCG and the Natty, does Elko receive an additional $3.5 million or $10.5 million?

Rationally, you'd think that it would be $3.5mm. But given our administration, it's probably $10.5.

I'd be ok with it, even if it is. I mean, didn't we pay $70+ million just to have a coach go away? Sounds like chump change in comparison, and a lot better value.

And I suspect that a lot of other coaches would begin to look at Elko's contract somewhat longingly (unless they have the same kickers in their own contracts already).

Elko has a $1 million incentive built into his contract for a playoff appearance. $100k for an SEC Championship appearance. Along with some pretty heavy earning potential for advancing in the playoffs.

All that being said, if the team performs at its current trajectory, he'll get paid. But will still only be at year 2 of a 6 year contract. I feel like year 3 is the year to renegotiate if all is going well.

Question is, have the BoR learned anything?

I am 100% confident that Elko is our guy. But he still has to prove it. How? CFP appearance this year and CFP appearance next year.

Then PAY THE MAN as the highest paid HC in football for all I care. He will have EARNED it.

Appears per current contract, we have learned a lesson as his contract has serious heavy performance incentives. Yeah!!

If he puts us in the playoffs he probably deserves a raise. And he probably will get one. We should get used to that idea. Elko is here because of an incredible opportunity. He doesn't have any ties to A&M and would probably leave at a shot at another top tear university if they gave him a better offer. Why wouldn't you? An offer at like say Penn St or Florida. A&M is a great job but not the only one.

A raise is fine, it is the payout clause that we for some reason don't know how to negotiate.

I agree but the current buyout structure issues are OUR fault. The guarantees are supposed to protect a coach who has a bad year or two from getting fired. We have proven that some teams are willing to pay just about anything to make a coach go away.

Underpaid... and hasn't achieved anything... much less a bowl win against a team missing a ton of players...
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

It's the same kinda BS we were subjected to with all the premature hype around Manning.

It's simply premature. This is what sports media is today. Everything has been discussed adnausea so they write crap opinion pieces.

Maybe we can just keep the same pay and give him more PTO. And better dental insurance.
