Elko is like the Ron Jeremy of College Football Coaches. Based on looks alone, you wouldn't think he'd be an elite guy, but he is.

Thnx alot....I just spit coffee all over my keyboard reading that analogy....

When was the last time you could say that about Aggie football? Never been close, and I am class of 99. Ags are close, sucks it didn't happen with a first year coach. For anyone to b**ch about the direction of the program is ridiculous in my opinion.
beyond ridiculous

Happy with Elko so far but will admit he was my third choice behind Lanning and Kiffin. It's been a busy year for me so far so haven't paid any attention to how those other two are doing.

Kiffin struggled to beat Kentucky & Arkansas. Lanning struggled to beat a team that lost to UCLA!

A&M ***t the bed the first season. Jury is still out and could always happen again this year. I want to see a couple of seasons of A&M finishing ranked in most polls at the end of the season before I start petitioning the BMAs to start granting exorbitant contract extensions.

Starred your post for two reasons -- agree with the sentiment, and your user name made me laugh. Great scene from classic 80s movie.

Like so many here he's been conditioned by past performance and it is understandable. The difference I think I am seeing is in depth and interchangeability of players. Those factors suggest a better shot at consistency.

If your gut tells you that we lose to FLA (or USC), Mizz, lsu, and t.u., it's probably time to lay off the gas station sushi.

I am happy with what Elko has done so far this season, but I want to see a much better finish than last season. We have lost 4 consecutive November SEC games dating back to a 42-30 loss at LSU on 11/25/23 and 6 consecutive November games to Power 4 opponents, including bowl losses to Oklahoma State in the 2023 Texas Bowl and USC in the 2024 Las Vegas Bowl.

Also, we have lost 7 consecutive November or later road games dating back to a 29-19 loss at Ole Miss on 11/13/2021.

11/13/2021: 29-19 loss at 10-3 (6-2 SEC) Ole Miss
11/27/2021: 27-24 loss at 6-7 (3-5 SEC) LSU
11/12/2022: 13-10 loss at 5-7 (2-6 SEC) Auburn
11/4/2023: 38-35 loss at 11-2 (6-2 SEC) Ole Miss
11/25/2023: 42-30 loss at 10-3 (6-2 SEC) LSU
11/2/2024: 44-20 loss at 9-4 (5-3 SEC) South Carolina
11/23/2024: 43-41 4-OT loss at 5-7 (2-6 SEC) Auburn

If we win our next 2 games against Florida (home), and Arkansas (away), we will start 7-0 for the first time since 1994 before a road game at LSU. The road game at Arkansas is a trap game because we will likely be double digit road favorites with the road game at LSU looming. Even if we beat Arkansas, we will probably be road underdogs at LSU because winning back-to-back SEC road games is rare. Also, we are 0-6 in Baton Rouge since joining the SEC, with 5 of those 6 losses decided by 12+ points. That's why I'm going to assume a loss to LSU. With a likely road loss to LSU, we must win 2/3 November SEC games against Missouri (away), South Carolina (home), and Texas (away) to finish 10-2 (6-2 SEC) and make the playoffs.

A win over Missouri or Texas would be our first November/December road win in 5 years, but losses to both Missouri and Texas would extend our November road losing streak to 9 games and stretch into 2026. We must win one of the two road games at Missouri and Texas to finish 10-2 and make the playoffs.

This team is nothing like those past teams other than the same colors on the uniforms. I could see projections based on last yrs team because all the coaches and many of the players are the same people but going back 3,4 years means nothing imo.

Come on folks. The Aggies are enjoying a 5-0 record. Ranked in the top five. Positioned well to make the payoffs. Games have been lauded for atmosphere by people seeing them live.

And here y'all are discussing firing the coach.

I admit I will be surprised if they finish undefeated, but geez, celebrate and enjoy the ride. Barring injury, we have a lot to look forward to.

Yes, I understand that this team is nothing like the teams from 3 or 4 years ago, but it is undebatable that we have struggled in November SEC games, especially on the road. I just would like us to win 2/3 November SEC games after losing 4 consecutive November SEC games, including all 3 last year.

No idea at this point. He's not failed yet though IMO, which is great.

I would be satisfied with a coach who simply fixes any disconnect between our strategic advantages & our on-field performance. Elko could still be that guy, but this will crucially require keeping a top-notch stable of coaches, both replacing good ones and parting ways with bad ones. This is one aspect of building a dynasty that depends primarily on the HC as an individual.

Now I'm definitely not satisfied with Aggie Football, which depends heavily on the AD along with Elko. IMO this is one area where we have lagged for decades, and I've seen nothing from Trev Alberts that suggests he's faring any better. The aspects I hold the AD responsible for are arguably enough to tank otherwise-successful coaches' tenures here. So IYAM we should be discussing our satisfaction with Trev Alberts *before* discussing the same for Mike Elko.

Can't remember the last time we were 5-0 so yes. Got some tough games ahead so finishing 8-4 is still within the realm of possibility…

Love the defense.
Clean up the penalties
Score sooner - shouldn't take half the game to get the offense moving consistently

I'm still undecided, but definitely happier with the hire than I was when it happened. I was pretty meh on the hire at the time, and wasn't completely happy with his style of defense when he was here as DC. But he sure seems to have things going in the right direction. I would be thrilled to admit I was wrong.

For those of you with massive BAS and still recovering from all the TexAgs hype of Jimbo, I can fill you all in.

There is ZERO doubt that Mike Elko is the best coach of my generation and that started with RC for me.

Guy is a Hall of Fame coach. And he will soon be considered one of the very best program and player developers in college.

The biggest challenge? Keeping him!! As folks gonna be shooting for Elko very soon. I am sure Del Conte is already walking by grave stones.

Kiffin I would rate as entertaining but his loyalty is untrustworthy.
I think we ended up making the right call with Elko.

It is so scary to think of that Saturday when Lucci let it out that Mark Stoops had the inside track. Man, we dodged one there.

Ask me at the end of the season and I'll happily eat crow depending on what happens. Until then I've suffered through too many years of BAS. I remember a t.u. game I attended in person in 1998 while a student. We came into the game with one loss to Florida State who ended the year No. 3. A national title looked possible and win or lose we were in the Big 12 title game. t.u. was a mediocre 7-3 and coming off a loss to Texas Tech. We blew the season and then lost the bowl game.

Great question!

"When there's an elephant in the room, the first thing you do is introduce yourself."
-Nick Saban

Trev has certainly watched a lot more CFB than me. And it's painfully obvious to me that a small set of teams in CFB enjoy preferential treatment in many crucial aspects of their operation, entirely outside the scope of their teams' preparation & execution, and that this preferential treatment is the majority of what differentiates "blueblood" programs from everyone else.

Trev needs to admit this.

Texas A&M has is not a blueblood program but we have all the pieces to be one. Not surprisingly, we, along with a few others (e.g. FSU), are the ones that are most materially impacted by (never receiving) this preferential treatment.

Trev needs to publicly recognize this. If we need data & analysis to substantiate, Trev needs to start the programs that will provide this.

We are not well-served by traditional tools of CFB competitive strategy; we've already amassed all that we can that is under our direct control. We need to explore unconventional tools to enhance our competitiveness. Am I saying start compiling on every referee, umpire, line judge, CFP committee member, ESPN producer, P5 conference senior staff member? maybe...

Trev needs to show that he's not only thinking along these lines, but already in motion

Then I'd be quite happy.

He's done an outstanding job recruiting and coaching so yes, he's been a great hire. The people who say they are unhappy or undecided are funny because what the heck are we going to do if he doesn't meet your expectations? Fire him? We kind of wasted out coaching buyout funds.

Happy with his recruiting and now his defense. The offense is now somewhat holding us back the last 2 games, but that's on the OL, Klein, QB. Elko occasionally has a few questionable in-game decisions regarding the clock or conservative offense late. I have a lot of confidence in Elko's management of the organization, his GM role, and the defense.

Still a few years from a championship roster. In another universe, we could've easily lost 2 of our last 3 games as close as they were, and be unranked.
