My football knowledge is limited but was wondering what adjustments if any were made in the second half. It seemed to me that Reed started executing, but I don't know.

I mean, Elko said they started calling plays that they knew Reed was more comfortable with.

Better play calling and less penalties. That's really it.

Yep. Bread and Butter made the offense look easy in 2nd half

Elko also eluded to trying to make Reed more of a pocket passer, then they started letting him do things he was more comfortable with. Maybe the coaches will finally learn something. It's fine to try to help develop players to improve their abilities BUT stop repeatedly trying to jam a square object into a round hole. Tailor the dang offense to the players strength instead of trying to warp them into something they aren't. Then recruit the type players that have the skill set to flourish in your basic system.

Ah so…the Johnny Manziel solution…

Seems like maybe they should just do that in the first quarter.

Elaborate please. Are you implying that it didn't work with JFF or it did?

It does bring up a good point. Can you ever recruit "your type" player for an offense when the coaching carousel spins so fast? {I guess with the portal it makes it easier but still} JFF was great under KK, not as much under (was it?) Spav. Reggie would have possibly done well under Sumlin (Slocum) but not under Fran (can't remember his OC). What if our incoming QB doesn't fit our next OC's system if Klein moves on. I think it goes back to the OC needing to be able to tailor an Offense to the players at hand. Yes, improve their skill set but stay true to their abilities.

A big second half adjustment (after about 8 min in third quarter)

Subbed in Faaiu for Nabou. Snaps/line play got a lot cleaner.

It has been frustrating to watch the offense but it seems they figured both Aub and MSST weren't going to be able to move the ball so let the offense work on some things. Clearly they hit the switch and said its time to take care of business and not let MSST hang around any longer.

I think Faaiu in for Nabou happened after a FS penalty on the RT or RG about half way through the 3rd.

This is what I saw as well. I think in the 1st half the OL was rotating / changing C, RG and LT.
I think at some point I even saw Zuhn at C in the 1st half (but I could be wrong).

Getting the Turnover deep in the MSST territory helped really put the game away.

I think Faaiu was playing center when we got stuffed at the goal line. I'm sure he does some things well, if not better than Nabou but, I think we probably get more push when Nabou is in.

Kliff admitted after Florida he had to set Johnny free.

I would say just less penalties.

1st half had some amazing plays that were just negated. If the penalties were removed, the first half looks very very different.

We did a better job tempo wise on Offense in the 2nd half. Im sure fewer penalties helped. Running the ball to set up the pass as well.

The offensive line came out imposing their will in the run game, which in turn helped the pass game. The first half play calling wasn't bad either. It's just that Marcel was forcing the deep ball when the underneath routes were there for the taking.

When Kingsbury was running the Aggie offense, the entire offense was geared around Manziel's combination of elusiveness, speed, and arm strength.

About 75% of the pass plays were two receiver reads, and if the deep ball was covered, and the linebackers covered the hook zone, Manziel had a spot to run to.

That kind of offense works awesome when your QB is Manziel. Other QBs, not so much.

The offense had an entirely different feel in the second half for sure.

We started running stuff to stretch their defense horizontally (wr jet sweeps, mid range out patterns) in the 2nd half . It worked as intended , opened up running lanes tackle to tackle.

I would disagree. Reed needs to learn to recognizes and hit more than just crossing routes. We will play teams later that will shut that down. We will have to make them pay with a Slugo or deep route.

I didn't say we shouldn't continue to run those concepts. I'm just saying make an effort to get him comfortable early instead of late in the 3rd quarter.

Trial by fire. If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball.

Reed really wants to hit that deep ball but misses out on a lot of other opportunities that could turn out just as big gains the way our WR's can make plays after the catch.

Reed is only going to get more comfortable, and eventually learn to put a little loft on those deep shots.
