What do you say to the people who keep bringing up holding on the last play

To me it looks like a good no call since it didn't affect the outcome of the play. There were also several pass interference/holding calls on notre dame that were missed.

SEC refs suck, it's a fact.

Also, the made up hold on Thor stopped us from scoring 2 minutes before that, so we actually won twice.

Go back and watch the game and focus exclusively on holding. Every play Numerous "could have/should have been" holding calls against both/either team, some of which were huge gains

Now do the same for d holding, dpi, and catch that touched the ground, potential targeting, etc. Again, look at both sides as objectively as you can.

Every single game you'll have 20-30 mix of "should have been calls" or "shouldn't have been" calls. Usually 50-50, neither team favored.

Don't put yourself in a position where a single call changes the game.

That BS holding (no holding)call on the first series that put the Ags in a 20yd hole.
That personal foul which was momentum that carried the tackle out of bounds. Questionable calls and no calls happen EVERY game.

I wonder if this is what it feels like to be bama, sip, ND and others that traditionally get all the calls

Maybe needs a deep dive from a YouTuber but I'd be interested to know if a defender was clapping the whole game to cause our false starts. Bisontis was visibly animated about it on the last drive and our coaches were calling for it. Maybe they made it up but I want to know. If so those calls put us behind the chains all night and it's a deliberate and conscious penalty by the defense (won't say 'cheating' necessarily), not a physically competitive penalty that happens in the moment

Don't kid yourself. We would be saying the same thing if it was the other way around. That's just how football works.

Refs had a tough night all around, no doubt about it. That was definitely a blown no-call in a high pressure situation, but it wasn't like they were on top of everything the rest of the night. That play was pretty much status quo for last nights officiating crew.

"Please feel free to contact John McDaid, SEC Coordinator of Football Officials, with your complaint. I am just a fan and the referees did not ask for my opinion on the matter."

I ask them to clarify which holding call. The one that completely stalled our first drive, or the one on our last TD play.

They weren't clapping but the DL did/yelled something on that play because the whole team was animated about that one. The other false starts were inexcusable.

I'm not having any kind of discussions about holding on the last play with anyone.

It's like the OP has a compulsive need to post garbage on Texags. A visit to a shrink is probably warranted to help curb this behavior.

Weird poster, weird thread.

My response

Was it holding and should have negated the TD? … without question 100% yes .

But Holding calls get missed all the time , it's part of the game.

Deal with it and move on, we won

I'd say "get over it, lots of missed called that went your way, and we have had huge calls go against us over the years, that is football".

I would tell them it did not affect the play.

Or

A&M lead the SEC in bad officiating calls hurting us and it was not close. Both home and away. This is fact bc they grade the calls after all the game if they were correct.

Or

You are kidding right, it was great play by 87 and 10.

Or

Only losers cry about officiating.

Or

Jackie Sherrill always said you have to win by beating a few bad calls a game. We did that bc there were several calls missed on ND. ND did not.

Or

It's really too bad ND cannot make an extra point.

There is holding on EVERY play. And I don't think ND got called for one holding play all game vs our DL. So to those that would say anything my response would be they are stupid. Hell there was PI on Nate before he caught the ball.

No one will remember the individual calls in a week or two.

It looks to me that ND was coached in the way of the Mexican soccer foul. Grab your opponent, fall over pulling them on top of you and scream for the foul. I noticed it happened several time particularly away from the actual action. Between that and simulating the snap count I feel no remorse for any missed calls.

Look at the first throw by Carr right after we went up (41); we only rushed 3 but one of our guys is closing in on Carr and both of his (defender) arms are clearly pinned back...no holding call...

The importance of that can't be understated because if that receiver did make the catch (he didn't thanks to 3 defenders and then possibly one catch or run (with time left), ND can kick a field goal....

Tell them inconsistency of refs as we had 13 penalties called against A&M and there was only 5 called against ND. Tell them it's karma for the phantom call on KO return for a TD that would have won the game too. Tell them to pound sand.

There are many no calls in the course of a football game. That's the luck of the draw. Get over it and move on to the next one. Be happy about the WIN!!!!!!

It was an obvious hold. It DID affect the outcome of the play. Reed would've been sacked or at least had to make a more hurried throw without the hold. If it was called, we still would've had one more play from the 21 yard line, 4th and goal.

We got away with it there. Don't need to sugar coat it.

Btw Notre Dame got away with clapping on defense and simulating the snap count leading to multiple false starts on our oline.

I don't know what the answer is but it's crazy how much difference officiating makes on the outcomes of these games.

Not a direct answer to your question, but that hold in that situation is exactly the correct move. He got beat on 4th and goal with less than a minute left in the game. Holding has 3 potential results:

1. TD, no flag thrown (Best case scenario, our result)
2. TD, flag thrown. 10 yard penalty, we get another shot at the endzone (medium case scenario)
3. No TD, no flag thrown (worst case, turnover on downs)

The last 8 games of last season the Aggies opponents had one holding call against them. It was on Lee's pick six against Texas when the horn back tackled one of our LBs who was blitzing. I think our first 3 games this season our opponents has maybe 2 holding calls. Plus the Aggies had 13 penalties ND had 3. I bet ND held people and it did not get called. And the Aggies ran the kickoff back for a TD. It got called back. You then had the Ags drive 75 yards after that heartbreaking TD was nullified. You led at one time 17-7. You blew an extra point. Don't blame the refs! The Aggies WON it!

Tell them the officials were too embarrassed to make the call after the call they made on Bussy's return. Everyone knows about "make up" calls right?
Well just consider the no call the make up for that one.
Officials giveth, and officials taketh away.

Makeup for the bogus holding call on Crownover's pancake block on the first series.

that one was so awful. ND d-lineman basically fell forward and they called a hold on Crownover and killed the drive.

No need to take any bait from *******s trying to downplay this win.

There was no holding. Their DL fell face forward because he got beat.
