Worried is a strong word when you have low expectations anyway.

As one whose core is cemented with BAS, I couldn't agree more.

Entire gameplan looked like a practice / scrimmage in play calling. Not a fan. Saw some flashes. Saw a wide open WR in maroon something rarely witnessed in the last decade.

Too early to make any conclusions on what kind of team we are or what kind we'll be in November when it matters.

Reed had a few bad throws vs UTSA. So did almost every QB I have seen this season.

But 0 sacks, 65% completion, 0 interceptions and 4 TD passes. I will take that line most games!
Get that % up a few ticks and do not miss receivers with no one near them, and we should win a lot of games!

We'll learn a lot about this team in 2 weeks, but I have low expectations, unless we just find a way to play at our opponents level.

Owens is so timid. I hope Moss isn't hurt

Been saying since his first year, he's a go-ball WR playing RB. Also, Moss is functionally hurt. Outside of the freak Adrian Peterson, it's pretty well established that an ACL requires 12-18 months to return, and Moss also tore the mcl. Yes, lots of guys return to the field in six months, but there remains muscle imbalances, brain inhibitions, and tentativeness.

Back to Owens, he has no play strength, runs like he's looking for a place to go down, and for all the speed, he doesn't change direction well at all (choppy step change of direction is slow). Bussey should be the third down back, bc while he's stiff hipped, he changes direction with assertiveness, reads blocks, and plays with a stout low center of gravity. I've read all the preseason love for A&M's RB room, and never understood it. Moss is coming off a severe knee injury. Daniels and Smith are average, at best, depth guys. Owens offers speed and little else.

It'll never happen mid season, but since mid last season I have firmly believed Owens and Bussey are playing each other's roles. Ftr, I don't think Owens has more than a gadget role on a top four SEC team, while I think Bussey has 8-12 carries per game rb ability. I'm very concerned about the rb room if Moss doesn't return to full strength. By the end of the season, it won't surprise me to see Bussey or Morrow starting.

You think you can tell this from 101 carries as a Freshman on the biggest train wreck team we've had in decades? You are either the greatest scout ever or forget how big of a jump that first year is for almost every RB. Way too early to make this claim.

It could just be timing/rust

Oline was hot garbage against vandy in the 2020 opener & that turned out to be our best unit since 2013

Oline decent last year, you'd expect w all returning starters they'd take the next step... time will tell

Every year the Pumpers tell us not to worry about how poor we looked in the first game and virtually every year it turns out they were wrong and we should have been very worried

Back to the thread subject- lack of rushing

Elko was asked and addressed it in the presser:

- UTSA "crammed" the box
- staff anticipated this
- had to responded with RPO which resulted in the big passing yards

So then that suggests our super experienced line and super snazzy stable of running backs couldnt handle a UTSA dline.

HOWEVER, Chris Taylor made a good point in the post game. He is not convinced ground and pound was the focus with two RBs returning from injury and a big game coming up against ND. Plus it gave Marcel a chance to play with his new receiver toys.

We will when the nat in 2027. We are young and in an interview last week Jimbo said we just need to execute. I'm not sure if he actually means homocide though.

Didn't look good and we will see much better.

Certainly a reason for concern

Why don't you post with your own opinion instead of faking in the vein of what you pretend the board thinks.

Oh right, because when you do, you end up being dead ass wrong and run away like a *****.

I'd give you an ounce of respect if you owned it, but you just run and hide. SAD!

You don't agree with him? You were calling the team "pathetic" in the game thread last night.

May have called a play or decision pathetic but never called the team that. At least I hope not!

Edit, I checked and saw I made a single post saying that only word in response to a bad play. Never did I call the team that.

Please update and edit your post acknowledging your horrendous accusation. Thank you for you attention to this matter!

We only took nine attempts. It was cleared to me that we wanted to work on our passing game. We need to do establish our timing between our quarterback and our receivers. If Weed wanted to line up and jam it down their throats I believe we could have. I believe will be more balanced in the Utah State game.

Also, having Reuben Fathereee back for Notre Dame will help the run game tremendously.

Another tuneup game (Utah State) for our timing with our wide receivers and our quarterback will help tremendously.

After today, we will have film on Notre Dame and everyone else. We did not have a lot of film on UTSA.

We were getting a warm-up game and UTSA was playing their Super Bowl.

Defensively we need to do better on the line. On the big run, we blitzed Scooby Williams and the safety didn't come down and fill the other gap and the running back who was a solid running back and knew what to do with the ball took advantage. I'm still not sure what our secondary is. Saying all of that I will say that in the second half after they broke that big run Elko got in to people's ass and guy started playing hard and we shut them down. The last touchdown was garbage time against the backups.

Moral of the story is we should be OK. Bad news is our schedule is really difficult. Welcome to college football.

If you don't have a running game, your defense had at least be able to stop one to level the field somewhat. LoL

Saw a ton of stacked boxes. What we got to see is Marcel didn't completely melt when forced to pass in RPOs. I don't understand some of the commentary about the offense at all.

I dont know how much of a patsy I would call them. Its not like we were playing some SWAC FCS team. UTSA is an FBS school and one that hasnt had a losing season for many years.

Here's a hint.

If they are not a power 4 school and we pay them enough money to fund their entire athletic department in order to come play us at home... They are a patsy.
