It's also primarily a driver for tv ratings. Miami/Notre dame sounds better when both are ranked that high. Same with lsu/clemson.

In reality, pre season polls are nonsense in general and just go by perceived talent level. You could put the top 8 in any order and it would still be fine.

Agree that they will not be the same. Weird how tOSU and Michigan will both probably be mediocre in the same season. Even then, I don't see how you put a team at #1 that lost over 70% of their starters. Another puzzle piece to the Manning hype train I guess.

That Manning name and hype from it is crazy. They have 2-3 returning starters on offense but deserve preseason number 1, LOL.

If he's a bust, it's going to be ugly.

personally I think they should wait until after week 6 before rankings come out. Because if you start out high it gives too much of an advantage.

But then how can ESPN manipulate the rankings to maximize ratings and get their preferred media darlings in the spotlight for as long as possible?

We can't have some crazy system where teams like ArizonaState take away the spotlight from Texas and Notre Dame just because they're "a much better team" that's just insane!

Yep, they lost a ton on offense. Every sip I know hated Ewers but if he was so bad then why couldn't Manning beat him out?

They will miss Ewers because although he was good at getting hurt once per year he could also make the throws Sark needed and could manage the game.

The sip fans are expecting a huge upgrade from Ewers to Manning and I cannot wait for the disappointment.

Until we decide to start winning important games, none of this matters. The stat mentioned above about us only ending "ranked" in 3 out of the last 10 seasons alone doesn't give us any reason to Bit_h and moan about how sip is ranked.

I agree. 19 seems fair for us, but some of the teams in front of us are just a joke!
KSt, Illinois, OU, Indiana and Iowa St right behind us.

At the end of the day preseason means nothing and it will all shake out.
It is just terrifying knowing how little the AP,experts really know.

Mannings mobility is the reason most Texas fans preferred him to Ewers last season. Most SEC defenses are too good for a genuine pocket passer and Ewers was just too reluctant to run most of the time when it was open.

Sark gave Manning a chance to be the guy and he was bad so Sark had to stay with Ewers. It appears Texas fans are blind to that point.

Preseason rankings are pretty much pointless now with a 12 team playoff. Any SEC team that finishes the season with only 2 losses or better will be in the playoff no matter what their preseason ranking.
