And finally... there is the baseball forum:

Still pissed off and in a state of shock from playing for the National Championship last year to starting at #1 this year and then... just bad.... until the last several weeks when it seems like a glimmer of hope arrived - only to be outscored this past weekend by just 1 run three games in a row in Austin - losing to our arch rivals coached by the devil incarnate.
The baseball team from last year to this year is the picture of our program though. We cheated the House and had a hell of a run, predictably coming up short.

Now prepare yourself for 7-10 years of ho-hum before we dare stick our heads up again and see what the upper tier of baseball looks like (for a single season). Wash, rinse, repeat.

I didn't know TexAgs gave out bans whose length could be numbered in year(s). Did you get parole hearings?

I was the moderator back arouns that time period, leaving somewhere in 2000

For me the line was discussion vs feelings / venting

Discussion would be something like we'll never get thr offense going without an effective OL....

Or something about losing thr facilities race which some blamed RC for, which hurt recruiting

Feelings and venting would be more like fire RC, he sucks. Nothing to discuss there

I would like to see us get back to sucking as bad as regular top 25 finishes. In the modern era that would hopefully spur big money boosters to fund NIL. Then again, we let facilities go stale under RC when that was how you attracted players

Think schlossnozzle giving us a whooping this weekend kind of sealed it for me. I'll always love aggie football and baseball, but man, I can't get optimistic about it. Not even a little. Permanent BAS finally got me.

Spot on. The moderators have gotten horrible. Instead of just removing posts, they spout off some smartarse comments. That completely turned me off so I am on another SEC site that is 100% better with a ton more traffic
which one?

They removed the illusion of the student athlete. That was the connection most of us had with the sport. Now that that has happened, we don't really care anymore.

Furthermore, most middle class and higher educated adults are weighing the pros and cons of "making your son into a man" and chronic brain injury. Less of them are playing.

I played HS FB and while it wasn't something I was going to do in college, it changed me and prepared me for life. But the facts are coming out…it's not healthy. My line coach who played for tu when they won a MNC in the 70s died a horrible death from his brain injuries.

The WRs and CBs are not the ones that face repetitive jarring head hits. It's the linemen and linebackers that are getting serious hits (and encouraged and allowed to do so) every single play. But the rules only protect the skill players. Theres no rule that won't ruin the sport that will fully take brain injury out of the game. At some point, we are going to ask ourselves whether it's moral to watch.

NIL and the portal have exacerbated the detachment. Football is living on borrowed time.
Something I've always asked but of course it gets no traction due to the money.

But what other job if it had what amount to close to a 100% injury rate for every person doing it wouldn't get shut down by OSHA?

I agree with you on the wealth and richness of our graduates/alumni. Aggies have a tradition of integrity, intelligence, leadership and great knowledge and success in many endeavors.
Aggies did not get to where they are financially and otherwise by making bad decisions, business or otherwise. Perhaps that is why most know that throwing millions, if not billions of dollars at kids that have little to no loyalty to our school just to have a sports trophy in a display case does not make much sense.
More than half of t.u.'s success is due to manipulation and politics, arrogance and ego….and all that that entails. I think Aggies are above that and thats what separates us from other schools. Maybe that's good leadership in the grand scheme? I dunno.
yes, A&M has alumni who are both rich and smart

and they know donating to NIL is equivalent to setting your money on fire in the backyard

and I will add...

letting the sips or getting tricked into letting the sips into the SEC...

is just horrible for A&M athletics

the school lost a big competitive advantage

just terrible all-around for A&M

A whooping? Losing three one-run ball games to a unanimous top team in the country with plenty of chances to win all three? After winning road series against the previous #1 and #2 teams in the country with a sweep in between?

A couple knocks or a better Ben Royo bunt and we could be talking about a different series. Sure, winning matters above all else, but just because we lost those three games doesn't mean we are in any worse position to go win a series at home against #2 LSU. For the most part, we played good ball. Just couldn't get it done. **** happens.

Win the LSU series, sweep Mizzou, win the Georgia series and who knows what can happen.

We definitely had an advantage being in the SEC when the bovines were anchored down by the Big XII, but let's not kid ourselves. In the 10 years we were the only Texas SEC school, we pretty much pissed away every opportunity that came our way. Following A&M sports since the early 80s, it has become a predictable pattern.

This school, and in particular the sports programs, abuses the hell out of our loyalty.

I think enthusiasm is low right now. Big brother owned us in all three big sports. Late season collapse in football to finish 8-4 again. No show in bowl game (not that it matters).

Wish Slocum was never fired. I think he would have turned it back around sooner than later. Back to the topic. I'm going to have to blame the lack of interest on Battered Aggie Syndrome. BAS as u see it on the message boards. OR .... could it be something else. Has BAS finally beat us down to a point beyond hope? Are we done? Do we have hope? Next year Nuno....are you there? i love when liberals go on a football board find a topic and bemoan the political board. shocker

so to answer the question in a non political way

the reason why enthusiasm is down is because we have under achieved for pretty much ever. and the last year has been the cherry on top. getting our butt kicked by our rivals who just joined the league is salt in the wound

BAS, NIL, early exit to pro sports, Transfer Portal, opting out of bowls, cost of tickets are all reasons for dying fan interest. It is only going to get worse. The Fighting Texas Aggies have changed to the Fighting Selfish Aggies.

I'm relatively new-son started in 2023-but even in these few years the mobility and mercenary nature of college sports makes it hard to be as invested as previously. I have checked recruiting boards for years, but that doesn't hold any attraction anymore because I just simply dont trust that any player 'committed' to A&M will actually end up there. So I just don't follow it or get excited by a signing anymore. Add in that current/returning players are mobile, I'm really in the mode of not counting on ANYONE to be part of the teams until the first game actually comes around. Makes it hard to sustain excitement through the off-seasons.

You know what? You're right. When we are looking at our win-loss total and regional resume, I bet all of the baseball stat websites will give us an asterisk next to those three straight losses to sip. It will look something like this.

"0-3 vs Texas*

*all three games lost by only one run, with plenty of chances to win. Losses were followed by winning road series against the previous #1 and #2 teams in the country with a sweep in between. A couple knocks or a better Ben Royo bunt and would have been a different series. For the most part, Aggies played good ball. Just couldn't get it done."

You think they'll give us half credit for three such great moral victories?

Absolutely. It was THE thing that provided differentiation and an advantage.

We saw what life was like in B12 - sharing a conference with TX & OU - it wasn't good.

I would like to move on from the SEC.

But there's no where to go.

More likely- it's early May, there is nothing to talk about.

All the stupid offseason threads about orange Gatorade coolers or Adidas vs Nike have been so thoroughly beaten into the ground, that anyone who's been around isn't doing it again.

There's simply nothing to discuss.

Nope. Since you're quoting me, maybe you should have quoted the part where I said winning matters above all else. I was simply saying it's not like we got swept by Sisters of the Blind, and it wasn't like we got beat 10-0 every game. Winning the series against LSU, Arkansas, and Tennessee carries a lot more weight than getting swept by Texas.... See Texas maintaining the #1 ranking after getting swept by Arkansas.

The team is in a good spot right now if they were able to bounce back and take 2/3 from LSU after getting swept by Texas. If they can continue to build on it and finish strong, then they could be a dangerous postseason team. I promise there's not a host in the country that wants A&M in their regional right now.

I guess I just don't have a huge dump in my pants like some others around here.

Agreed. 2 years ago I could have told you every player on our roster, which recruiting class they were in, who we won the recruiting battle over not to mention all the current commits and the 50 plus top prospects….

I watched half the spring game on YouTube and didn't recognize half the names I heard.

I have spent my time on the hobbies that are actually rewarding and don't make me miserable (like hunting) and I gotta tell you I'm a way happier person.

Too be fair, I thought all the heart ache was worth it when all it took was the right coach and a little luck. Now that crap coaches can just buy the players they want it's means so much less.

I think NIL has ruined college football and it has caused a serious issue with team cohesiveness. As a result of an ever kid for themselves mentality, fans are losing interest in their teams.

I would further point to conferences falling apart and massive changes to the college football landscape. That is adding to the overall failing of college football from a fan perspective.
