As Aggie Ring Day marks 25 years, see how this tradition has changed over time. In the early years, students camped out in tents and played carnival games. Now, today's massive events bring together thousands of family members, friends, faculty and other members of the Aggie Network.

Even before April 2000, Porter Garner '79, president and CEO of The Association of Former Students, had been working to bring more recognition to the act of Aggies picking up their well-earned Aggie Rings. He directed a team to create ways to make the delivery of Aggie Rings into a celebration.

See how Aggie Ring Day has changed through the years!

Class of '84. I dont' remember how I was notified I could pick up my ring, probably word of mouth. I walked into a small building by the Education Building, they checked to see if I had any outstanding parking tickets, and handed me my ring. No roomates, no parents, nobody but me. I have been to a couple Ring Days and Ring Dunks and it is great how they have made this a huge event, not to mention the revenue it brings to the city. I am coming to CS for a wedding this weekend, and the hotels were gameday prices.

Class of '75. Much the same. I heard that rings were in by word of mouth, just like I learned most all crucial information. Stopped by Bolton Hall after class, picked up my ring from a basement room, put it on, and went to my dorm room.

Class of '80. Same experience here. Word of mouth, went and picked it up. No fanfare. However, there is something in the back of my mind that makes me seem to remember the University passed them out over a few days by using the last name letter (A-J; K-s; etc). Not sure if I am misremembering.

Class of '79- I don't remember how I heard I could pick up my ring. I do remember that a buddy and I went and picked ours up together. As we were walking away, I remember him telling me that we may not walk across the stage but they couldn't take our rings away from us.

I seem to recall picking mine up in some building near where the greenhouses used to be. Lady sitting behind some kind of half door. She spun around in her chair, found my ring, handed it to me and said "congratulations". My Ring Day experience.

"Blocker Hall" maybe? Got to campus during FOW for air out, unloaded, walked across campus and picked it up. No fanfare, just me and my ring.

Class of '99 - username checks out.

Picked mine up at the Clayton Williams Alumni building. Don't remember how I found out they were ready, but just walked in, picked it up and that was it. I did dunk it at the chicken though…32 seconds

My Father, '39, handed mine to me at Love Field, Dallas, 1970. We had a long weekend in basic training, Ft. Jackson, SC, so I flew home. I don't know who was the proudest, my Father or me.

This was my experience except I went to the alumni center to pick it up. Was in such a hurry I just put it in my pocket and the lady said "aren't you gonna wear it?". Was in middle of engineering upper level hell, working etc so too distracted I guess. I did dunk it at the chicken a few nights later and it sunk in.

First day of class my senior year. Fall of 1982. Walked upstairs in the MSC. There was a giant room full of tables with different letters of the alphabet on each table. The lady at the check in table said look for the tables with the first letter of my last name. I found the table that had a capitol T. Told that lady my name. She found my ring box and handed it to me. I opened that box and just stared at my ring for a long time. Finally, I put it on and walked outside. The sun hit my ring and senior boots, each showing the sun's reflection. That was the happiest day I could remember at that time. I was walking on air as I went back to the quad.

Graduated in December 77. Ring was ordered late because I didn't know until after summer school that I was going to get to graduate in December. Received a letter from a jeweler in Bryan that was the local dealer for Balfour that my ring was in. Drove to Bryan to pick up ring. The sales lady for the jeweler and I were the only ones there. Certainly no excitement or ceremony to it.

Dec 84 grad, Same experience as tokyag, not much hoopla. I got mine as a senior (whenever they came in) so I had a few more courses to finish. I read about them coming in in the Batt. Finished an afternoon class nearby and went to pick it up.

Put it on outside the entrance and it felt like it weighted 5 pounds on my finger. No ring dunking or big celebration. Too many other hurdles to jump before I graduated.

Let's see...what else are the students doing that we can commercialize and make money off of?

Maybe James Avery can produce silver charms for Silver Taps?

A little rifle and a bugle and you can buy one every time you attend!

Class of '09, I think we picked ours up at Reed Arena, I went with a few buddies to go get ours, my parents both went to Tech, so they didn't come in to see me get mine, I didn't really give it a second thought. When I got it, the girl handing them out asked if I had anyone I wanted to present it to me, I just looked at her and said, you, I guess. Someone took a picture of me and my buddies that were with me, that was all. I remember thinking it was a bit overblown, but there were definitely people with family in town and everything. It was a pretty big deal at that point, that was probably spring of '08 I think.

Just like others said, no hoopla. They had just converted the old Ag Pavilion into an actual building that had a large open lobby area, so it was pretty new. They had tables set up and you walked in told them your name, and they gave it to you.
Greater love hath no man than this....
