- A&M baseball is annually a top 3 - 5 program.
- A&M basketball is annually a top 10 - 15 program.
- A&M football is annually unranked.

An Aggie friend asked me this question. I answered "yes." My logic is that A&M has been sitting at 8-4-ish for a long time in football and the money has still flowed in. The hope, optimism and sunshine are still there, and other sports are benefitting.

He was not a solid "yes" but did say that his thinking may be too old school to consider A&M anything other than a football school.

Any thoughts?

Only if the first two include even a single natty. Then it's a no-brainer yes

Only if we won at least one baseball or basketball national championship. Last year's college world series final appearance was the closest we came to reaching that goal.

Back when I cared about football, I would have said no that's not acceptable. Football needs to be at the top.

But now, in the age of the free yearly transfer and NIL, it honestly makes no difference to me either way. That's fine I guess.

I wanna live in a world where Aggie football lives up to the hype, and money spent.

A national championship in any of the big 3 sports would be great. Baseball might but im starting to think that will never happen either after today. The curse is real

I'm heading towards that attitude as well

I'm at the point where I'm almost resigned to us never winning t anything significant in football again in my lifetime

Almost

If we have another 8-4 type season this year I think I might finally get there

I would take a baseball natty this season over the football team going 0-fer for the next 5 years.

It would be nice for bb and baseball but a bad football program would relegate us to the likes of N Carolina.

Would we trade our program for N. Carolina? Nope

Buzz is gone to Indiana next year
Baseball is through, lost Gavin, we are done. Probably lose to t.u. in super regional at t.u. so I am looking forward to 8-4 next year.[/BAS]

. Elko rebuilt a team in his first year that Fisher had left in horrible shape culture wise etc. and won 8 games. How many did Sark win in his first year? It's better to just let people think you don't know football than to open your mouth and prove it.

I get more excited about an Aggie baseball game than football. The Kyle Field experience is incredibly lame and the product has been trash for years.

F*** no. Would go 0fer in every other sport for one championship in football.

But hypotheticals don't exist, so ultimately I want all sports to have great success. But nothing in this state means anything compared to football. Much of my family are longhorns. If they beat us in football, we could sweep the other sports. It gives literally zero bragging rights and people would laugh at you for bragging about a basketball, baseball, softball, etc., win if they have football scoreboard. Same with us. Lets say Texas beat us in basketball but we beat them in football, you know damn well we'd laugh at them for talking s*** about the basketball win.

I would terminate the basketball program entirely if it meant annual contention for championships in the other two sports.

Elko crashed and burned in the second half of the season. Same thing he did in his final season at Duke. If it happens again this year, I'd say we have a pretty good idea of who/what he is as an HC.

If he has Sark like improvement then great. Until then though, the comparison is silly.

What? Elko didn't "rebuild" anything. The average TexAgs poster could have won 8 games.

I have BAS. My current prediction:

Baseball team will not return to Omaha this year
Basketball team will not make the Sweet 16
Football team will win less games in 2025

NoahAg

If baseball and basketball won championships in the next 4 years, and the Mavs won a couple more in the next 10. Throw in an Aggie soccer championship (we're due)...
I'd be good not winning a football title in my lifetime.

The logical answer is a resounding Yes. Consistently top 3-5 in baseball means regular trips to Omaha so competing for national championships. Top 10-15 in basketball means the team regularly earns a 2, 3, or 4 seed to the tournament and is routinely in the Sweet 16 with trips to the Elite 8 not uncommon. If the tradeoff for those scenarios is a football team going 8-4 more often than not, what's so different from where we're at now with the football program?

I disagree, maybe because I don't care about basketball and barely care about baseball.

I'd prefer one football championship to any number of championships in those sports.

I love Aggie hoops and enjoy keeping up with Aggie baseball, though baseball is probably my least favorite sport of the big three.

I would be perfectly fine if hoops and baseball lost every single game for a decade if it could ensure a single title in football.

I'm not going to get myself worked up anymore for approaching seasons. If they win, awesome, thumbs up and Gig Em. However, the pessimist in me knows, games will be lost that shouldn't be lost in inexplicable ways. The old saying, "I've never seen em quit", just isn't true anymore in Football. Baseball and Basketball, coaches have quit on their teams, jumping to other schools because of name recognition. Those coaches ultimately failed (Billy Gillespie, Mark Turgeon, waiting for the Schloss downfall) which is even more discouraging. The exceptions being Bear Bryant and Jackie Sherill. NIL and the transfer portal have ruined College Football for me, with Baseball and Men's Basketball getting there for the same reasons. A National Championship in this day and age just doesn't mean the same anymore. Teams are nothing but hired mercenaries now, they follow the almighty dollar and the bandwagon. The "student athletes" no longer care or dream about attending or playing for the school they grew up wanting to be a part of and coaches quit giving a **** a long time ago, (see Jimbo, it was all about the money).

I am and will always be a fan of Aggie Sports and will continue to attend, cheer and watch every game I can. I'm just no longer going to live and die by what 18 to 22 year-olds accomplish on a field, court or diamond. I am almost 50 and have been a fan since I was 8. 42 years of waiting until next year has taken its toll.

Detroit gets rid of Dan Campbell, and he decides to come back to Aggieland. I might once again become optimistic.

Don't get me wrong, I would too. Football would be my number one, but we're just not going to win one. It's just not going to happen.

The next best thing would be basketball or baseball. If it was guaranteed that we get one there, I'd accept football being awful.

The question wasn't which one would you prefer. Everyone is going to say football.
