Texas is just winning the bidding war. Probably no surprise.

'Straight-up better NIL package!' 5-star recruit says choice of Texas was about money

Yeah, 5 stars have a lot of leverage.
Just have to pick the ones you want to make the best offers on.

Top 10 classes don't come cheap.

The haves still appear to be haves. It's just some of the massive $ associated with it are flowing to the players.

Also one of the have nots is guaranteed a shot in the playoffs every year (champion of the fifth highest ranked conference).

They've always had money. Now they've got an innovative head coach that knows how to use his players successfully. On top of that, lots of stars in / headed to the NFL, consecutive appearances in the CFB Playoffs, and odds on favorites for the Heisman and next years CFB Championships. Someone at aTm administration should be on the hot seat.

They also absolutely needed to land some big names up front with what they're losing so they had to pay more than even they likely wanted to.

This. They lost or will lose 4 DTs to the NFL the last 2 years. Sips got some DT help in the portal but nothing to replace what they lost.

I thought coaching staff/schools weren't supposed to discuss specifics with players in regard to NIL prior to a player committing.

It's the Wild West out there these days & nothing is going to stop it unfortunately. College football as we all know & loved it is gone for good.

They are doing what they need to do. I see no indication we're following suit.

How much are you donating to NIL?

"We" can't spend money on recruits that doesn't exist.

I don't donate so I don't complain about it. It's not my place to tell the mega rich how to spend their money.

my buddy said their coaches are already "raving" about his work ethic skillsets. he will likely be an starter year 1 for them... but no matter, theyre going to be the heaviest drafted school this year. good for us.

Personally, I don't think the kids will be able to handle the money and pressure least of which being able to play as a team. We'll see.

There were always bidding wars, it just wasn't so transparent and not at the current dollar level (whatever that is).

Need to just go to employment contracts already. Make them 3 year contracts, guaranteed, unless they leave the team, and put in place salary caps. The current system of no rules for payment or transferring will kill the sport.

Regular rank and file sip fans are not donating to NIL. Their mega donors are footing the bill. We cannot make it up by crowd funding from people donating $50 a month.

Didn't t.u. come hard after Chace Sims and DJ Sanders, but we were able to hold on to them. We must be playing the NIL game pretty well too.

How? Or rather, how many more anti-trust suits do you suggest losing?

Nobody is as dominant and talent rich /deep as teams use to be due to the portal. That was a pretty obvious change we could see this past season. It's not just NIL, kids want to play to get the real NIL in the NFL

It's not anti-trust if you have a contract. The players would be employees of the school.

"package" sounds like they have come up with too money with creative perks. Lombos on loan and no telling what else.

Don't any Houston oil guys have connections with dealerships that sell Italian sports cars?

Yep. We really f'd up a 12 year head start by failing to capitalize on all the advantages we had while they were down.

But that's what we've always done best. Choke away opportunities to be great.

This all levels off at some point. Professional organizations can pay stupid money because the one writing checks are financially rewarded from the profits. Rich people will only throw so much money at the emotional reward of a potential championship for so long before reality kicks in. Only one team wins and every other team with large donors will not be happy over time.

We signed the greatest recruiting class of all time 4 years ago. Those guys are now seniors. We are about to reap the rewards of that class.

Arguably A&M is losing even more big names on the DL, pretty much all of which are projected to be drafted in front of the Texas key losses at DE/DT.

We'll see if it pays off or if the 3rd party money is squandered. Texas absolutely needed to land elite talent on the DL regardless of whether it was more than the school would likely want to pay in the event it was allowed to do so.
