Unless these contracts are public information, nobody except those involved know what the real numbers are.

It's only going to work for one each year.

If we have the 3rd wealthiest athletic department, shouldn't we be on this top 5 list virtually every year?

The athletic department doesn't pay NIL. It is private individuals or groups.

Sort of incredible how we went from being vilified for "buying" the greatest class ever in 2022 to no one even THINKING about vilifying the obscene top five payrolls in 2025… and yes, I believe in conspiracies and double standards.

If those are true numbers LSU didn't do so well.

Gotcha.

Shouldn't we still be in the top 5 almost every year though?

We might be, there is no way to know. The contracts/payments aren't public, so no one knows what the kids are getting paid.

We can't even make the top 5 in roster spending.

I have no idea what is spent on NIL but feel 100% certain that what is spent on coaching and NIL is enough to say we pay too much to go 8-4.

You would think so, but virtually no one on this board has a U. It's up to all of us to say we "should" be top 5.

Yeah, I have to say, I disagree. This is precisely what cutting off your nose to spite your face means.

It was year one for crying out loud. I hope we get into the top 5 ASAP. The sooner, the better.

My personal percentage of the NIL total will remain the same, no matter how high the total goes. I am committed to consistent growth in my rate of giving.

We were 8-4.

Had we been 10-2 or better we would be listed as top 2-3 in pay.

On an episode of Follow the Money about a year ago, a guy from the 12th man foundation (back when it was serving as a collective before the adverse tax ruling) said we were around #10 in spending.

I have no intention of ever contributing nil dollars. That said, "we" should spend $50 mil next year.

Who thinks we can win a championship being #10 in spending?

I don't know anyone who thinks we can win a championship outside of TA and its posters.

I was just pointing out what the guy said because he's the only guy I've ever heard speak on NIL who I'd consider at all credible.

Much of the " roster money" will be recouped, once a team gets in the playoffs, additional money for getting a bye or advancing, more money for winning the playoff. If your worry about spending to win a National Championship- maybe your team can moved down the D2. Like it or not- This is a brand new age of college athletics.

Honestly, teams who pay that kind of money and don't win the national title essentially wasted the money.

Seems like a strange take. Sure, that's the ultimate goal. But are you saying that only one team should ever spend money? In order to even have a chance, you have to spend elite amounts of money. That's merely what gets you to the table. This isn't a guaranteed success investment. Few things are, in fact.

What if you are building towards something and putting yourself in that position year over year? You don't just go from 0 to 100 overnight. Future national title winners spent A TON this year but didn't finish on top. But eventually, they may. But again, you have to experience more failures than successes. Even nick saban, the GOAT, had more seasons without national titles than with.

What if the winning you did do brings in more revenue? Even if you fell short? 13-1, 11-2, 10-3, all bring in more revenue than 8-5.

You're telling me that walking off the field beating texas, winning 10 games, even if we didn't win the national title isn't worth more investment? I'd highly disagree. I'd love to be #1 in this stat. Eventually, it would have a great chance of paying off. Even if not any given year as a guarantee.

It's also the principle of it that doesn't make sense to me. Obviously, there's no guarantee of a team winning a national title, but paying 18-22 year olds that can transfer at anytime millions of dollars sounds like an idiotic idea to me. It's a very shaky investment from the get go.
