Given all of the recent changes in college sports the GM job is really important. Who was Coach Fisher's GM? Given the bust of the 2022 class it doesn't appear that he did a very good job. I sure hope that Derek Miller does a much better job.

In order to be a GM, you actually have to manage people.

Given the results you are probably right. Building a roster has to be one of the most difficult jobs today. I hope we have the right guy. Building and maintaining depth would seem to be the most difficult task.

Right now our roster at NG and 3 technique needs improvement. I thought that GBD and Samu would have provided depth until our fish acclimated to SEC play. Those two positions are probably going to be tough to find.

I know GBD wound up at USCe. I thought Samu went to Baylor but not sure.

Our program is not at the point(and may never be) where players that can start at other "excellent" programs will be willing to wait their turn at starting. To me, that is one thing that makes the GM job very hard. Finding Nic Scourton types that takes a year or two to develop is really a crap shoot. Unlike Purdue, I do think if we can identify and develop those players we have the resources to keep them.

I'm not sure any program is at that point right now, at least without paying significantly for the back-ups to stay.

Just for an example of the craziness, the 2 teams in the championship games were starting transfers at QB, and Ohio State's #2 QB is expected to transfer out, in addition to another backup.

You are probably right.

The sad fact is that whoever is willing to spend the most money will have the best rosters. I hate it and I don't see it changing anytime soon, but that's where we are.

That's pretty much how it has always been. That's why the instituted scholarship limits, but the damage had already been done.

True. There are many willing to spend the money, including us. We just haven't done very well(going by w's and L's) in how we spend. Hopefully our GM can get better results.

When you say that, I keep thinking of the George Steinbrenner impersonation on Seinfeld done by Larry David.
