He is the worst suck-up announcer in college football. Instead of being honest, and calling out refs or questionable plays on the field, he tries to gloss it over.

Yesterday, 1st Quarter, opening drive Notre Dame on 2nd down from their 36, WR was a full yard short of the first down marker. It wasn't even close, and it wasn't based on the yellow line (the yellow line was also correct, btw, but the yardline to gain I am basing on where the ball was on 1st down.

Immediately after the play, Fowler says "that'll bring up 3rd and 1..."

Then there's a brief silence/confusion while Notre Dame lines up for 1st and 10, and Fowler says they're going to give him the first down, and Kirk quickly jumps in " yeah that extra effort there gets him the first down...."

It would be nice to have a little honesty, like "I'm not sure what the refs were doing there but he was a full yard short of the marker..."

This is definitely something you should spend time/energy being upset about.

Fowler could have made the same comment. Why aren't you mad at him?

Wife and I were watching and specifically stated during the second half that Kirk was very quiet when he could have been a homer. He was very cautious not to be

I'm pretty good friends with Herbie and we were having a conversation about it this morning where he mentioned that he intentionally didn't mention it just to piss you off.

Well I'm friend La with Fowler and he told me he said "that'll bring up 3rd and 1" just to set Herbie up. He doesn't like Herbstreit

That's not even the real conspiracy - he's actually a golden retriever trafficker. Those aren't even his real dogs. He's trafficking them across state lines. IYKYK....

Regardless of what Herbie said there, that was still quite the WTF ruling by the refs.

It completely baffled me. I mean, the receiver was clearly a yard short of the first down.
And then next thing I see, it's 1st and 10.

It was like, did I imagine that?!?

I will agree that I thought it was a horrible spot. The Ohio State coach should have been the one complaining and the replay booth should have stopped it.

It's entirely possible he wasn't really watching the line that closely and figured ND got it.

Of all the reasons to hate on Herbstreit this is maybe the worst one I've ever seen. It's like saying you're disgusted at Looch because he smiled at someone at a football game or something.

I love that some people did some things reasoning you got there. Looch and Herbie can eye fork whomever they want to, but we don't have to approve.

I am pretty sure I will be crying if we ever win a title in my lifetime...much less having been a QB at A&M and then calling the national championship game (like Kirk with OSU) ...

And I am pretty sure many of us who have suffered with this team for our lifetime would shed a tear or two..

He wasn't crying about overcoming a long drought of championships. He was crying about what his friend Ryan Day went through after losing to Michigan and his personal triumph thereafter.

Amazing how easily people get triggered and how hard they look to find a reason not to like something.

I personally like listening to Herbie. I think he does a good job and is informative. Also, think he is willing to let the world see he is a real person and has emotions like everyone else. He even was willing to explain the moment in his interview with Pat McAfee yesterday.

yeah, that's why i ranked it reason #94

but in truth, this is only one snippet of a common theme/ he bends over backward to avoid any kind iof controversy whatsoever.

Man up and give us real color, NOT WHITEWASH.

Herbie is a pretty face who actually played college football. That he is a partisan is implicit in being a college football player and ESPN encourages their analyst up play up comments to keep the audience entertained SO YOUR EYEBALLS CAN BE SOLD LONGER…discussing it causes secondary interest and drives eyeballs to the screen. You are in the trap!!!

You realize, their actually watching the game on the field. They are not staring at the yellow line. Yes, I know they have monitors, but they are not looking at them. By the time they do, it doesn't really mean much...

But OK!

Well the facts would be in their favor at this point...

It is a very intimidating place to play, but until we go 55-4-1 for a decade at home, well, its loud, but the opposing team is getting the W.

You can complain, but you can't argue this.

You seem to have missed the entire point of the thread- contradicts what i presume is your purpose- to give an opposing view or additional insight.

Your post does neither. sometimes i think you post just to try to appear to be smart, and end up looking anything but.

i posted how as a color guy, Herb gies out of his way to AVOID adding color or controversy, when the opposite is what the viewing public wants.

then you weirdly post what you did, which we all already know. explain again what your intent was with the post

it was contradictiry in that it appears you are wanting to take an opposing view or an enlightening view, and yet it reaffirms what point i made and adds nothing.

it's like if i posted that Dave South really is confusing and I wish he would explain better what is going on.

And then you would post how a play-by-play annoucer is supposed to describe whats happening on the field.

yeah? so what? it makes me think you just barely skimmed the conversation and then rushed in with your "insight" not really understanding that this was NOT a complaint that Kirk is too colorful ir insightful.

Yes, he's a former player and he should have been all over that obvious error by the refs instead of providing "cover" for their mistake. it's the way he generally commentates, and it's an aggravation watching a former
player wimp out in the interest of avoiding controversy.
