Overall, it was a disappointing end to the season, which makes it hard to appreciate what we did accomplish. However, these are not terrible final rankings for a first year coach.
AP Poll: first out (~26th)
Coaches Poll: first out (~26th)
FEI: 21st
FPI: 15th
Sagarin: 22nd
SP+: 12th
You're looking at the end of the season AP and Coaches poll rankings. In the final rankings, we got exactly one (1) vote in the AP poll.
2024 Final AP PollWe finished the 2024 season ranked behind such juggernauts as Arizona State, Boise State, Indiana, SMU, BYU, Iowa State, Illinois, South Carolina, Syracuse, Army, Missouri, UNLV, Memphis, Colorado, Navy, Louisville, Kansas State, Marshall, Ohio U., and TCU.
The computer rankings paint a better picture...I guess...but they are fool's gold. Regardless, you cannot argue the fact we finished 8-5 (again), crapped the bed in November (again), and lost our bowl game (again.)
I'm still on board with this coaching staff...for now. But if we don't see a significant improvement in 2025, my vote will be to cut bait and move on to something new ASAP. We've proved waiting around for 6 years doesn't do the trick, so why not hold these multi-millionaire coaches to a "put up or shut up" standard early on?
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
