Syracuse is all offense, no defense. They didn't win because of him.

We destroyed Missouri with a trash QB who transferred to cougar high. What a ridiculous season.

7 SEC teams finished ranked in the final poll

and the sips only played 1 of them...and went 0-2

t.u. indeed had a tomato can schedule in 2024

My take away, different format but tu had the same result as we did in our first year in the SEC... Minus a Cotton Bowl win of course.

Didn't Colorado lose their bowl game? I can't remember, but if they did, including them is BS!

and the Ags started the season unranked in 2012

didn't break into the poll until week 6

and of course finished the year with a win over the national champs (13-1 Alabama)

yes, the Buckeyes definitely earned it

Notre Dame had an incredibly soft schedule -- only playing #21 Army during the regular season

This was a complete failure of a season. Lots of reasons for that in my opinion. Picking the wrong starting QB at the start of the year, complete meltdown by defense (esp "star" defensive players) near end of year, extremely poor coaching as the season went along, etc. A sign of a great coach is getting the team to play BETTER as the season rolls along so you're peaking at the end, and that definitely did not happen.

But the bottom line remains.....this was a complete failure of a season. Finishing unranked after starting 7-1 is abhorrent. Losing to an Auburn team that didn't make a bowl, and to USC in the bowl game after being up 24-7 vs their JV squad is Mickey Mouse stuff.

Here's to hoping we don't have to make threads like this anymore.

and we do need to mention...

Elko finished unranked in year 1

Sumlin finished #5

Jimbo finished #16 with wins over #6 LSU and #12 Kentucky -- their end of year rankings

I mostly agree. But. No one could have predicted Weigman's meltdown, and switching to your inexperienced backup midway through the season is a recipe for disaster for any staff. The injuries toward the end of the season were also a bitter pill for a first year staff that hasn't had time to build depth.

So our qb gets no blame for losing 4 straight games? He almost lost to Arkansas and Bowling Green too. Lol

Yes...maybe like 48th or so. As others have pointed out, this was a complete failure of a season with our HC admitting he can't coach defense after the USC loss.

So picking Reed at the beginning of the year would have made him not lose 4 of 5 games at the end of the year?

We lived up to our post-1995 standard this season, start out strong with just 1 loss (to the big non-conference opponent), then collapse when the calendar hits November. Just substitute losing to Tech, OU and tu every November to losing to South Carolina, Auburn, and, uh, tu.

Thinking about it, this is the playoff way; every NC winner will have a similar season-end resume moving forward. Assuming you haven't already defeated one or two to secure your playoff spot, you'll have to beat (at very least) 3 more top 8 teams in consecutive weeks to get it, at the end of a long season, too. You better have a ton of talent and be really deep.

We would beat many of the teams on that list by multiple touchdowns. Deion, Memphis, Unlv, Syracuse, etc.

Lost the best running back in the nation. That changed our offense. We will be a sleeper next year.

College football has become a joke. Conference champions ranked below the teams they beat, in one instance twice! Stupidity reigns in college athletics at so many levels.

Well we beat Mizzou by 30 points with a healthy Moss. Once Moss was out, this was a different team. I personally believe we would have beat Auburn with him. We ran a ground and pound attack that game with Daniel's running over 25 times. If we would have won the Auburn game, we would be ranked, we would have gone to the SEC CCG….a healthy Moss is what was missing.
