Saw the below tweet from Field Yates that Stewart only had 4.5 sacks in 3 seasons. Crazy.

Edited for Stewart not Turner

You mention Turner but the tweet is about Stewart. Which kind of makes it more crazy given the position

He will have a great NFL career. He had some brilliant flashes in his time here.

shemar stewart is a perplexing prospect. on the one hand you have a julius peppers clone on the other hand you have a guy who never really put up any production. i can't tell you why he isn't more productive he just hasn't been. i could not justify spending a first round pick on a guy who never totallly did it at the college level. but i hope he prove m wrong seem like a good teammate.

Agree - he seems to have it all but the numbers. Seems like a good teammate also. Too big of a risk for a first round pick imo

We got less actual production from our "on paper" DL talent than I thought possible.

He will be completely forgiven for never producing here if he names Texas A&M as his school during MNF intros

Nothing screams "great" NFL career.

When Price was sick and after he died, it seemed that the DL performance took a dip.

So his ceiling is the defense version of Martellus Bennett.

Part of the lack of production was that opposing teams could not commit holding against someone wearing an A&M uniform.

Another part was his inability to actually make the tackle when he had a sack opportunity.

A lot of guys would be happy with a 10 year career in the NFL.

As long as the coaches in the nfl can teach him how to wrap up a tackle (an ability most 8th grade B-team coaches possess but somehow A&M's defensive staff does not), he could become a great player

NFL scouts will draft on his measurables...

But in college I watched a guy who rarely could win a 1 on 1 block. Not sure how or why that projects well to the NFL.

I couldn't see using a first round pick on the guy. Too much risk that you wasted a high draft choice.

Think S Stewart will go 1st rd as way too much athleticism, size, bend and speed. NFL will note he played against top competition in SEC (some top Tackles along the way esp vs tu, LSU, USCe). He might have been one of the best DEs to play at A&M (not M Garrett level, but could show some of that capability at the next level). Many grading him 1st rd and a couple have him even top 10 due to his upside (too much upside to pass up).

He didn't disappear as much as some think (many mistake sacks as stat of greatness), but was doubled, chipped a lot, and over-used by our staff (poor rotations and was out of gas in second halves and even by EOY it was showing). May even be a bit of poor coaching tech which we'll see once he's in NFL (which is a different game and he'll have to beat 1:1s more).

Part will be NFL motivation to perform or be banished which can change some players.

In fairness, while our DL as a whole underachieved, Shemar Stewart played under 2 separate staffs and DL coaches.

He had 1.5 sacks, 1.5 sacks, and 1.5 sacks in his 3 years here.

Maybe he's just not that good at getting to the QB?

your signature at the bottom of your posts is hilarious in today's day and age.
that's not a negative shot at you personally....just a sad reality of how the Portal and NIL have distorted things.

I think he'll end up a 2nd rounder. For his sake, hope he's a 1st rounder, but i think most every player we put in the draft ends up going later than any Aggie fan would expect. We're too close to it, and lack objectivity.

Bigger picture, it translates across the team too. It's mentioned all the time about how much "talent" we have, when we really don't have anywhere near what we think.

Guys get drafted as much on their "measurables" as they do their performance.
