I was so glad to watch Ohio State defeat Texas 28-14 to prevent them from making their first National Championship Game appearance since 2009, but Texas has been elite over the last two years:
1. Texas is 25-5 over the last two years, including 15-2 (8-1 Big 12 in 2023 and 7-1 SEC in 2024) in regular season conference games.
2. Texas has made back-to-back conference championship game appearances and CFP semifinal appearances.
3. Texas has won an FBS leading 11 consecutive road games since a 41-34 loss at Oklahoma State on 10/22/2022.
4. Texas has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country.
To their credit, the recruiting and development components of their program is built to produce NFL draft picks, just like Saban was doing. Saban built an NFL prospect factory, and his brightest pupils are trying to replicate it. Kirby's done it, Sark seemingly has done it, and Kiffin's trying like hell.
Last year t.u. had 11 players drafted.
This year they'll likely have 10+ again.
Then look at Georgia....then Ohio State....those teams are built to win it, and it certainly showed in their games vs t.u.
Now compare to us....who had 4 players drafted last year??
And this year, we'll likely have 3, maybe?
Whenever we played t.u., things looked wayyyyyy different than when Georgia and OhSt played them.
We're not winning the SEC and competing for Nattys with a team that only puts in 3-ish draft picks a year.
Maybe we'll squirrel out in the near future and make the playoff a little earlier than expected....but to win this conference, let alone win a Natty....we're just not built for that yet.
