I thought I was all Sumlins fault?
Add me to the short list who thought it was dumb, dumb, dumb - especially after they did the same stupid **** with Sumlin.King of the Dairy Queen said:

And they were dumb. If Jimbo could not remake loyal after all the money we threw at him+ facilities+ assistant money then BMA should have said "don't let the door hit you on the way out ".King of the Dairy Queen said:

It was also A&Ms weakest SEC schedule since we joined.greg.w.h said:It was a reasonable extension after being declared a single game out of the 2020 season four-team playoff. Remember we played only SEC teams and there was no way to calculate meaningful inter-conference strength of schedule. Pure eye test.King of the Dairy Queen said:

We just recruited the 7th ranked class. We have the 6th ranked portal class. We are currently 2nd in the early going in 2026 with 3 five stars visiting us and national guys talking about us possibly landing the #1 class(and yes, despite the 2022 class, we should all want that). We are firmly in the top 10 and maybe top 5-7 in NIL despite the finances of Jimbo's contract. We are entering year 2 of a new staff that, and while we closed the season out poorly, they still took a program that was 12-13 the previous two years and had us one game away from the sec championship with about 14 transfers from Troy, Central Florida, San Diego State, Louisiana Tech, etc. on the field. A winning record in the sec for only the 4th time in 13 seasons (5-3)
Look, Elko may fall flat on his face and go 7-5 each of the next 2 years and be fired. More coaches than not are fired within 5 years than win a championship, and it's not a bad bet to say he will be. But do some of you not remember the fran years? the Sherman years?
This isn't even close to a program low point. There's plenty of reason for concern, and there's plenty of reason for optimism. We are in a very unknown territory right now with plenty of good and plenty of bad mixed in.

No, it was super easy to see what teams we actually beat and how we beat them in 2020 if you just really evaluated after the season. Also, again you don't extend with that much time left on a contract. That is simple. I think Indiana and Arizona State could be kicking themselves with their extensions.

The only justification to extend was the fear of him being poached. Most of us have no idea what that probability was, but I was on the side of those who figured it was idle sip talk messing with MBA insecurities.King of the Dairy Queen said:

I would love a forensic accounting investigation to what happens with all that $$$ after a big contract.
Are certain people pushing contracts to line their pockets with kickbacks?

Bold of you to come into the zoo with all that level headed talk. This is a place where you let all of your personal sorrows out and project them onto the failures of our football program you know.beerad12man said:

Agree, class of 96, I can never remember a time feeling more apathetic and resigned to our fate as a second tier, quirky outpost of college football than I do right now.

You in a coma during the Fran years?
Games like 0-77 that really could have been 0-100+??

How long have we been talking about our class ranks? At least as long at TA has been around.
How's that worked out for us?
I know you hinted at that to some extent, but with all that said, WHAT'S YOUR POINT? It can't be recruiting rankings because been there, done that. It can't be we were doing well at a certain point in the season only to suffer some bad losses, because, again, been there, done that. SURELY, it can't be that we should be glad since, compared to the Fran and Sherman years, we actually have hope. Once again, ...
Oh, never mind.

Have you been in been in a coma for 27 years?
The Fran era was 5 years removed from a conference championship.
We have been in the wilderness for almost 30 years, we can't even finish ranked in the top 25 90% of the time.
Nobody in sports, college or pros does less with more than Texas A&M football
He is going about building this team in the right way. I hate to play this card but I have years of playing and coaching experience to draw on. Sark first year- Texas fans-fire him. Saban first year at Bama-Bama fans bad hire. Fans make knee jerk reactions. With everything you said Elko won 8 in his first season with a make shift roster and one off season. I am afraid people with your take will be jumping back on the bandwagon soon.geoag58 said:.CoachLB said:

How many times have we heard the bolded only to be, not just beaten but embarrassed on the national stage. How do you explain away some of his game time decisions this year that probably cost us a game or two? Couple that with factors outside the purview of the coach, perceived cringyness of our school(agree or not that's our reputation because our rivals push that narrative constantly), meddling big money ag's and many are losing faith that our school can ever win it all.

Most have a very bad misconception of where this program really is.
They think the roster is loaded up with all this Natty-caliber talent and all we need is the right coach. And that the right coach will win it all, almost immediately.
Which is wayyyyyyyy wrong.
I don't know if we have the right coach yet. But I like what he's doing so far.
But we're a LONG way away from having a Natty-caliber roster. And it's gonna take some time for us to build one up.
Right now we hover around 3-ish NFL Draft picks per year. The true perennial contenders put in around 10-ish. It's gonna take a minute for us to grow into that.

It's not going to take a minute or two to grow. It's going to take averaging winning 10 games a year starting next year. Anything short of that is failure.

You've gotta have better players than we do right now to win 10+ thru the SEC with any consistency.
If we start winning 10+ games per year in this conference, with rosters that only produce 3-ish draft picks per year, then you'll have the most over-achieving program in modern history
