It wasn't just preseason hype. He's been hyped since he committed.

I mean you can basically look up any thread about major QB's entering the portal. The overwhelming majority will most likely be saying "Do not want, have Conner."

I know for a fact this was said about Ewers, for example. He's a cancer, a prima donna, and Conner is lightyears better.

If Conner had entered the portal, he'd have been the #1 sought after QB. By a long shot.

It just hasn't worked out. Maybe it's coaching. Maybe it's not trusting standing in the pocket after having his leg broken. Maybe both.

This staff has a lot to prove. We shall see what they can do given time, like Freeman was.

The hype was national. Conner was seen as a top tier SEC QB going into the season. He was on Heisman watch lists which most schools (sarcastic grin goes here) have little influence over. The program may have rode that wave to increase funds but there was no slight of hand if that is what you are suggesting.

Lets not forget that Leonard grew up a ND fan. There was zero chance he was going anywhere else. To top off all the rest about Weigman.

Man what a monster flop Conner turned out to be.

Perfect QB for Kline. That's what's crazy. You hire a coach who wants his QB to run power off tackle but you don't get him that QB. Yet the QB you had can do this.

Agree. Interestingly, our challenge has really never been recruiting them (we've had dozens of ridiculously talented QBs here over the years). It's been in developing them.

i'm old enough to remember thinking lance pavlas was finally going to be the one.

This. Our offense wasn't consistently good but our defense rather than our offense cost us several games. Scar , Auburn, and USC games the defense was simply not good enough to win. Notre dame and tu were the opposite.

Leonard is not that great. Not really sure he'd have won the starting job had he come here, he was a slam dunk to win it at ND. He was possibly a better fit for Klein's offense than either of our QB's tho.
