That preseason hype was second to none…and I can't figure out where it was coming from. It was almost like the hype to prop up fans/donations took precedent over what had actually been shown…. When will we ever learn?

Leonard is not the reason ND has had such a great season… HTH

with NIL, why try and develop a FR/SO when you can go get someone for 1 year that already has a wealth of experience? they did this last year and now this year and if rumors are true - will get Ewers to do it again.

We thought we had a better QB. He wasn't and the guy behind him wasn't ready. We are always a day late and dollar short.

Go compare Reeds stats with Leonard's… in 150 fewer snaps Reed only had 500 fewer passing yds and 4 fewer tds passing and 300 fewer rush yds… Leonard threw just as many INTs as Reed this season.

Yep, the zoo can't even make up revisionist history on that one. He was considered the next big thing and a dark horse 1st round draft pick after what was supposed to be a great season by him and his coming out party.

Also nobody thought Leonard was going to take ND to the natty game.

I just don't feel like having to make another account for pointing out what everyone and their mother can see if they're just honest with themselves. It's the exact reason I quit spending $12/month

a more relevant question is probably "would elko be the a&m hc if he had not had leonard at duke. i would guess probably not. of course, if that would have put stoops here instead hard to argue it hurt us too much.

Leonard's grandfather played at ND also.

His style of play reminds me a lot of Klein's college days, so that would've been a fun QB-OC combo IMO

I saw very few plays the entire year that made me go, "wow, that was a nicely designed play"

Misdirection. Traps. Things that catch the defense off guard or off balance

We never do these things. Watch a Ravens game sometime and you'll be stunned by the disparity in imagination between our offensive playcalling and theirs

Should at least ask his mom to make us all some matching maroon "You suck" bracelets.

We've had plenty of good coaches come through here. Every one of them fell flat on their face after taking the job. So, I suspect we'd still be 8-4 beating the likes of McNeese and losing to everyone with a pulse like we do now. Leonard has a brighter future because he did not come here.

We put all our qb hopes that Conner would play like a 5 star qb but that never happened which was the main reason our season did not turn out as it could have and we had to settle for a untried freshman

ND is able to use a guy like Leonard because they are #1 in defense and he helps pick up tough first downs to play off that with more ball control. I question if Leonard could have won any more games here with our defense. Defense is why ND wins more so than being better than a guy like Reed (or what Weigman was supposed to be especially). Leonard does give you the tough yard, which can help out a struggling OL. There is that.

There's plenty of things to question after year one. We must demand that Elko provides excellence on his side of the ball and take a massive step up defensively in year 2. But sometimes we go a bit overboard here, and use hindsight to try to make things worse.

And again, in addition to this, everyone around the country would have taken Weigman over Leonard had he hit the portal. Sometimes things just don't work out. We can question if the offensive scheme wasn't good for Conner, and we didn't get out of him what someone else might have. But in terms of taking Leonard, I don't question that at all.
