It's odd how many of you fall immediately to "he kicked our asses" when your praise for any coach (the pirate, lane, etc) is challenged by stats and results.

I think OP meant Portal era rather than NIL era since, as noted above, he was never at a school that had significant NIL. However, what the portal giveth, the portal also taketh away; I doubt Crabtree would have stayed at Tech very long in the portal era, for example.

I bet butter teeth wishes that NIL had existed while he was at tu.

Leach definitely owned A&M, but he was an average coach at best when you take his conference record into account. If you look at the non conference schedules he had at all three of his head coaching gigs, you'll see that his overall record was inflated by playing very weak competition in those games. He also didn't win any championships. Even RC was able to win multiple conference titles, including a BDF title when it was still one of the top leagues in CFB.

I remember when you could not read one positive word about him in TexAgs when he was at Tech and now we got people starting these types of threads.
