Are you referring to our 7th ranked high school recruiting class? Or our 5th ranked transfer portal recruiting class? Yeah we need 2-3 more quality guys, but it's not like recruiting is going poorly by any measure.
As to playing QB, don't sell yourself short. Unless, of course, you are. But with that kind of NIL money, we can recruit some seriously short OL players and drop into a lesser conference that has short DL.The Dog Lord said:
OP is spoiling my announcement that I'm donating $100 million to NIL efforts but only if I get to be starting QB for 4 years. We're going to suck those 4 years, but the money will help long-term.

I know one measure that recruiting is going poorly. That measure is wins and losses. Is there another measure that is more important?

Recruiting isn't and shouldn't be measured in wins and loses.
What? Rivals has our 2023 class ranked 14, with 7 SEC teams ahead of us. It has our 2024 class ranked 20, with 9 SEC teams ahead of us. It has our 2025 class ranked 10, with 6 SEC teams ahead of us.the most cool guy said:

Oh, really? SMH.
That's right. Our 2022 recruiting year was unbelievable. We won the national championship in recruiting and we're just waiting on the trophy for our trophy case and the banner to hang in Kyle Field! That's gonna be great! Who cares whether it translates to wins and losses… We won the freaking national recruiting championship!vander54 said:AWP 97 said:the most cool guy said:

Wins and losses is the only objective way to measure the success of a team (including its recruiting). You clearly derive satisfaction from phantom recruiting success, which is fine. But don't expect others to revel with you in your endless sunshine pumping.vander54 said:Whaler said:That's right. Our 2022 recruiting year was unbelievable. Again past doesn't equal future
2022 is not 2025, or 2026, or 3022 for that matter. With your statement we shouldn't even try anymore

Hate to break it to some of ya, but if you don't recruit really well, you won't have any shot at the kind of winning you're really wanting.
Nobody's saying those wins are guaranteed.
Downstream of the recruiting has to be the coaching, and the retention, and the development of both their bodies and their skill sets.
Then there's executing when the lights are brightest (yeah yeah Jimbo comments, whatever)
Historically we haven't done those very well, and it shows.
Jury is still out on whether this new regime will do it better. Personally I think they will.
But rest assured, if you don't recruit well, you've got zero chance. And all these wins and trophies you "demand" are just a ****ing pipe dream if you don't recruit well to start off that chance
And W's aside, if you really want to gauge the legit "talent" on a roster, it's not in recruiting ranks on the front end.
It's the NFL draft picks on the back end.
And if you're a team that's only putting in 3-ish draft picks per year (like we've been for decades), then you're not built to compete for nattys at all
