With the current environment (NIL & TP), these kids now have agents. Coaches come out saying other programs are tampering. If an agent reaches out to another program, how is it tampering?

Say this cause the Ags need DL help. I'm assuming Elko has guys in mind that are on current playoff teams and waiting to get those guys. Is he tampering if an agent has already reached out to gage interest?

It's all a cluster, right now.

If I recall, I heard a former coach say that a coach can't talk directly to a kid until he's in the portal. But you can talk to someone and have them talk to the kid or talk to their agent (or parents, etc.)

In other words, It's all a cluster.

We need to tamper better to keep up with the joneses. But again, we're too busy being the nice guys and playing by the fake set of rules set for the non-blue bloods.

So…agents can reach out for NIL but not to the school. The Collective works from there…it's gonna require a collective bargaining agreement to fix. Ted Cruz can only make it worse…

This is a bit of a cluster for sure. But if coaches are formally using cut-outs to bypass the restrictions on contacting NCAA players, then you are playing with fire. Those kinds of arbitrage activities are discoverable in this day and age and is punishable by NCAA.

NCAA is reluctant to interfere with players from making NIL revenues. However, the NCAA is well within it's rights to enforce its rules regarding coaching contacts with opposing players and its pretty thin gruel to use 3rd parties as a way of working around those rules.

Coaches are using the loophole to their advantage and most schools will find themselves on giving and receiving end until the rules are changed.

We would likely get nailed to the wall, just like it is targeting on us if we look at an offensive player hard enough.

I feel like it probably should be noted that you have no idea about our recruiting processes and what does or doesn't happen behind closed doors.

You think kids are just arbitrarily entering the portal and 'hoping" someone picks them up? It's all pre-determined well in advance for the better players. Someone tells someone that if you enter, you have XYZ waiting for you at this or that school.

for the better players, they definitely already know or have a good idea

but for most players, they are jumping in and hoping someone takes them.

Of course, but we'd have to be very smart about it and leave no evidence of any "wrongdoing", which is more than possible considering most other schools seem to always get away with it without issue.

Big Dollar Daddy has a dealership on the East Coast; his lawyer contacts a SEC running back's agent for a one time $5K advertisement opportunity at his dealership. When the player shows up, it's made known he'd be the face of their ad campaign for $5 million a year IF he transfers next year & wears Big Dollar Daddy's alma mater's colors on Saturday. Suddenly, players know within minutes where they're headed towards once they hit the portal. Only the $5K is traceable; everything else is below board & is what is happening now!!

The unenforced portion of this comes into play when a player enters the portal and immediately turns around and commits to another school. There is no way tampering didn't occur when things move that quickly (see Ole Miss).

You can talk to agents behind the scenes. You can talk to former coaches, other contacts, etc. You can dig and do research on a guy.

And yes, we have absolutely done that. Many guys on our commit list we started the process long before they went in. There's a couple who may still go in who we are as well.
