I'll be that annoying guy and keep saying itstop fretting over Aggie football because it is not Aggie football. All of minor league professional football is a disorganized mess, and it's irrational to maintain emotional ties to a team that is appropriating OUR name, image, and likeness. You will be better off if you wash your hands of it all and remember the good times. Close the door, and find a new passion. Support a high school team, an Aggie club sport team, anything that hasn't been destroyed by money.

I've gone the high school route myself, and I'm loving it. I can't stomach the chaos of the college process anymore. I still watch games, just like I do the NFL. But there's no emotional attachment.

I didn't finish the t.u game. That was the first time I'd ever not finished a conference game.

I also didn't watch the bowl game which was the first time in decades.

Im there OP. I've been debating on moving my aggie funds into Aggie baseball and dropping football altogether. Makes me sad but it also feels like I'm freeing myself of years and years of madness

No need to divorce anything. Just tone down your level of fanaticism and enjoy the games for just pure entertainment value. Don't donate money that you can't afford to treat like a night out for fun. Don't get wrapped up about which player goes to what school or be upset when they transfer for more playing time or money.

It is what it is. College football is no longer the "win one for the Gipper" days.

Yep

I'm finding myself getting closer and closer to that mentality

I believe that it doesn't matter how many millions of dollars we put into this football program. Aggie football will always live up to the moniker of Texas 8&5.

What makes you think NIL money won't do the same thing to college baseball?

I've been day dreaming about it for a couple years now. Aggie Football is why I went to A&M, and has been a borderline religion. I still think I can get the camaraderie and stuff out of it while just checking in every once in a while going to games with friends and what not, but man I waste too much time on it, and I thought our university finally figured it out moving to the SEC ( necessary and game changing still), but I'm not sure how close we actually are to becoming a true football power like I thought.

Hah, what a concept! Enjoying a sport that was made for entertainment value as entertainment!!

If people would realize that college football is not all that important in the end and quit allowing the ups and downs of a bunch of 20 year old kids playing a game to rule their lives...well what would the world look like then.

Maybe fewer people on this forum would fat shame the head coach every time they don't like the outcome of a game. Maybe fewer people on this forum would personally attack players to the point they transfer from the school (Calzada anyone?).

Dare to dream.

It's still fun and it's still entertaining. But it's not what it was and it's not ever going to back to that. It's a bunch of mercenaries temporarily wearing the colors of the school you attended playing against another school's mercenaries. Definitely more fun when your mercenaries win than when they lose, but there is a reason I haven't watched an entire NFL game (outside of the Super Bowl) since Jerry Jones bought the Pokes and I too admit that "college" football is heading in that direction in my life.

I didn't even bother to watch the bowl game.
In fact, the only game that I watched this year was the Texas game. And that was fun.

There will be plenty of new Aggie football fans to take my place, but I am out, and have not missed it. There is much more to life than this bs.

That's one opinion. I enjoy it too much to quit .

Yes, it's frustrating. Yes, it seems like we should have stumbled into one great season by accident with all of the resources expended . Yes , the spirit of the game has been *******ized by money altho that ship started sailing 50 yrs ago and one could argue the playing field is actually more level now than it has been in a long time.

I'd estimate 99.9% of those that say they are divorcing Aggie football will be right back on board as soon as we demonstrate some sort of sustainable run.

I stopped caring so much in the Fran sherman era. It is irrational to let something you have zero control over take up that much space in your head. Same with politics. More rewarding to invest that time in coaching youth sports.

This is all loser talk. I'll be there through thick and thin. This is not some momentary "oh, I'll support the Ags as long as they are good." The beauty of being the fan of a team is that they suck, they suck, they suck ... and then one day they don't. My dad was a lifelong Cubs fan. In 1984, when Leon Durham let a ground ball get past his allegedly wet glove in the bottom of the seventh inning, allowing the Padres to score four runs and win the 5-game series, he almost cried. He NEVER saw them win the World Series. Late in life I asked him if he'd rather have followed the Yankees or the Dodgers. He looked at me like I was crazy. "What kind of fan would I be if I only followed them when things were going well?"

My my. People really get upset over comments and opinions.

Well here's another, which as I type I'm crying, gnashing my teeth, and destroying my office in a fit of rage:

I think the case can be made that our football related traditions, even the most revered, are irrelevant.

We're not cheering for Aggies. We're cheering for mercenaries one year who play against us the next.

I respect quitters more than complainers. Quitters usually just disappear instead of hanging around and complaining. Nobody here really cares about the portal and NIL. They just care that we lost 4 of our last five games. If we were still in the playoffs the same folks would be celebrating right now.

Exactly. At least the comings and going in the NFL are more predictable. You are rooting for a program that you hope makes the correct acquisitions, trades, cuts, etc. you see the deals as they come out. You know you have you rookie QB for the next 5 years, with sole rights to negotiate to keep him around. You get it when guys move in to make more money, because that was the intent of the sport.

But to see it in CFB is different. You (most likely) never played for the cowboys. You likely don't live in Dallas. You have a detached loyalty that can be severed whenever. But if you're an Aggie, you're an Aggie. It's your school. They was supposed to be, at least in that way, a common bond with the team and the school. That's almost completely dead now.

That's fine in the sense that there is a good product on the field, but the loyalty will slip more and more in the coming years. I'm not a "sky is falling" type that thinks the sport is over, but I do think this is bad for the sport as a whole. I'm fine with layers getting paid, but the one and done over and over is going to get old quick.
