Boost the security and play the game tonight

Major changes and adjustments because of an attack are what the terrorists want to give them more media attention

Yeah, I'm sure terrorists are pretty pumped about getting a football game delayed 24 hours.

Law enforcement there has enough going on today. Take a 24-hour breather to step back and make sure you have a good understanding of the overall security picture.

They want any major disruption.

Postponing an evening playoff game against two blue bloods is a significant disruption.

That nobody outside of college football fans cares about.

Oh yea? The networks don't care? Advertisers don't care?
America doesn't care when millions have their last day of the year end holiday today?

Braindead take, man

Networks still get a game.
Advertisers still get a game to run ads.
Americans will be able to watch tomorrow night just like they would have watched tonight.

The only people seriously disrupted by this are those that were in town just for the game. That's a pretty big deal to a lot of them I bet.

Sorry, dumb take by you.

Nah dude. Many many people starting their work back up tomorrow. As someone with experience in tv advertising, much more value in New Year's Day media than the day agger.

To say that only college football fans care about this disruption is beyond ignorant

You're saying ad rates are automatically going to go down because the game is on January 2 vs January 1? The same 12 - 15 million people that would be watching tonight are going to be watching tomorrow night. Un-wad your panties.

The bigger issue is you have a security system that is highly distracted after what happened so you realistically couldn't guarantee the game is as secure as it would normally be. They also are likely trying to determine if this is a lone wolf terror event or a bigger plot especially with allegedly explosive devises found in the area and some reports of detonations.

The fact that there was an explosion and potential attack at Trump hotel adds to the reasons to delay. Yes it may hurt some advertisers and screw up schedules for people but that doesn't seem that important vs a potential second attack in NO tonight.

The cost per impression will be higher. Point is your argument downplays the impact the postponement has.

This was never an argument about security. It is an argument about disruptions that terrorists want.

In the grand scheme of things, the postponement only seriously affects those in New Orleans. The rest of us will carry on tonight and be in front of our TV's tomorrow night. The networks are already there and just have a 24-hour delay to deal with. Alternate TV programming tonight. This isn't 9/11 where planes were grounded for a week.

We all agree having security at its best is the priority and trumps disruption. I don't think anyone in this thread is arguing against that.

At the same time, postponing the game has real, measurable impacts beyond college football fans and New Orleans. No, it's not at the level of 9/11, but it has more impact than you're acknowledging.

If you're changing the argument, that's fine, but appreciate that terrorists want disruption, and this is disruption.

It would be incredibly tone deaf to play the game the same day as an awful tragedy.

This disruption is fine given what we know now. That other suspects are very likely on the loose and other devices were discovered outside of the truck event. This is just prudent to postpone. Not sure why this debate is even going on anymore.

Just fyi for yall arguing about ad rates...they wont change based on what day it is on a premium event. And if they do and any agencies/advertisers wanna btch and moan about ratings...spoiler alert: they would anyway. They'll get their cpp made up (they've got at worst another 29 days in January and at best 363 days in 2025) in the forms of other in-kind sponsorships with ESPN or makegood spots wherever.

Respectfully, thats not the biggest concern here. Taking time to make sure everything is secure and safe should be priority 1

Game time has been moved to 3 PM CST at the request of the two schools. Going to guess they don't have enough rooms in NOLA for tomorrow night.

The Sugar Bowl was pushed up to an earlier start time on Thursday after postponement

The kickoff time of the Allstate Sugar Bowl has been be moved to 3 p.m. Thursday, officials announced Wednesday.

The game between Georgia and Notre Dame in the Superdome was tentatively moved from Wednesday to Thursday at 7:45 p.m. in the wake of the suspected terrorist attack, Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley announced Wednesday.

But officials from both teams requested the re-scheduled kickoff time be moved up because of logistical reasons, sources said.

I also imagine that the winner knows they've already lost a day of preparation to Penn St because of PSU's earlier game. The winner will be playing on 6 days rest and prep compared to PSU's 8 days.

I can't say I'll mind another afternoon football game today.

Hotels will get another night of being packed though. Food places another day/night of being packed as well. But I'd hate to have to fly out of that mess.
