Penn state utterly dismantled two teams that "earned" a playoff spot. This is bull crap. And the worst part is that Penn state is 3rd in their conference.

I like the expanded playoffs when there was some illusion of a power 5. There needed to be a system that allowed all 5 a chance to compete.

But now it's a power 2, similar to the AFC and NFC. Any illusion that we can't possibly determine the best two teams in the nation has vanished right at the time that we are allowing more teams to compete.

Solution: let the B1G determine their champion. Let the SEC determine theirs. Play the two against each other.

The rest of the leagues can play each other in meaningless bowls just like they do now.

Don't necessarily disagree with you. I have said all along champ will either be from the Big 10 or SEC.

Minor point but OSU and Oregon may be better than PSU but how is PSU 3rd in the conference? They came in 2nd and lost championship game. OSU losing twice in conf means they came in behind PSU.

For fun I looked at possible lines for round 2 if the favorites won round 1. Based of Sagarin's rankings.

Oregon (-7) vs Indiana
UGA (-5) vs UT
tu (+2) vs OSU
PSU (+2) vs ND

I know it's not the best to guess the lines but still fun.

Using his rankings PSU would have been an 11 point favorite vs BSU

OSU (-1) vs Oregon
ND (-2) vs UGA

I thought tonight's game was a pretty decent game. Boise State had a lot of unforced errors that would have made it much closer. They missed, what, 2 field goals? They had, what, 2 critical turnovers. They had a TD called back on what ended up with an interception.

All of it counts, of course, but if you could take out a play or two, this is easily a one TD game or a 10 point game at worst. I don't think Penn State was going to lose it due to their defense and speed (imagine having BOTH), and Boise State getting behind early took out their running game for the most part. Keep in mind that when Penn State cheated up to stop the run, they were exposed, including on that TD where the BSU receiver was so wide open, people in Utah were closer to him than Penn State defenders.

Everything that could have gone right for Penn State pretty much did and the reverse is true for Boise State. THAT (plus what I said above) was the difference. That doesn't mean Penn State blew them out. They were 7-10 points better and for all intents and purposes, factor out a few things here and there, and that's about what the game boiled down to.

Set criteria and stick to it. Factor in schedule difficulty and Indiana is not in and tu is not #5. Rankings are mostly peoples opinions. Add brand bias with opinions = bama in the playoff. Boise played decent. They just made too many mistakes.

OSU lost to Michigan but they are my favorite to win it all.

They also lost to Oregon but I expect them to win the rematch. Just becuase Ole Miss flubbed a few games down the stretch does not mean they could not make a run in the playoffs.

Hate reseeding. Just top 12 make it and play a nirmal bracket nit some guarante byes like they have now. Top 4 get byes regardless of conference championship game results.

Considering that there has been more chaos this season, than I've ever seen, I thought the playoffs would be pretty good. I was thinking that the crazy transfer portal BS was finally catching up with teams and things were evening out more. Unfortunately, the blue bloods are dominating and making it boring.

Do away with the top four teams getting a bye week. 1 plays 12, 2 plays 11 etc. That way the National Champion has to win every round of the playoff. If you want the trophy, then beat everyone you play starting with the 1st round for all teams.

Why not let the 4 conf champs chose their bracket based on ranking (if they are intent on doing autobids).

So oregon chooses first, likely picking penn state or Notre dame... etc.

That's what I'd guess we see eventually. They just need to get rid of this auto bid seeding crap. Let a computer pick the Top 16 teams or use a combination of a computer and the AP poll. After round 1 when it gets to 8 teams there would be some pretty solid matchups.

Georgia Southern, Wake Forest, Middle Tennessee St and Furman were the 4 teams they played out of conference and they had one elite win this season over Georgia.

But then you're resting guys for conference championship games which the SEC and Big 10 would never go for.

Should go to 6 teams with the B1G and SEC champ getting a bye. Then the next four teams just use the BCS formula. I'm tired of 12 olds on a committee deciding. It's unnecessary variability and makes the whole thing more arbitrary.

Theres only been a handful of good games ( a 1 score margin) since we went to the playoffs we just don't need them. Fans feel the same way look at the ticket prices for this round, can go to almost all of them for under face value

It was all about the money and the Big10 and SEC making sure they got enough teams in, which is also about the money. 6 or 8 is more than enough. This year had the most parity we've ever seen and there is still only a handful of teams that are truly good enough to win the title. We've had 5 playoff games so far and they have all been one sided. Boise at least tried to make it interesting, but they still lost by 2TDs and a FG.

When the bracket was finished Penn State to the final 4 was the easiest pick of all. They are losing their next game though. So 2 average playoffs win for them. No biggie. Good for them.

There are only 2-4 great teams a year. That math will not change with 12-team (or 16) playoff.

The problem is not the blowouts, the problem is the 5 and 6 seeds getting easier paths than the 1 and 2 seeds

Playing smu and Boise or Clemson and az st is much easier than having a bye and then playing Ohio st

Or having a bye and then playing notre dame

Giving lower ranked teams higher seeds has messed up the playoffs

In this format you'd rather be the 5 or the 6 than the 1 or 2

The problem is the teams are selected/invited and did not earn their playoff spot. (This is football, not an invitational basketball tournament.)

Teams that have multiple losses and don't win their conference championship shouldn't earn a playoff spot. Period.

And you damn sure don't earn a playoff spot by losing to the same team twice!

Go to 16 and get rid of auto seeding, give conference champions a bid and a home game, but not a bye.
