The myth is TexAgs prevented the hire. The facts are murkier. But Bjork left because if it.

I don't think anyone with a brain believes Texags prevented anything. A more reasonable explanation is that they broke the story and started a chain of events. It's clear that our former AD didn't have the right buy-in from the real decision makers.

Stoops was leaked to get fan reaction and have more leverage to stop the hire.

If TexAgs and social media accepted it the fiasco may have gone differently.

This seems more plausible but if true would explain our continuing mediocrity. Leaders don't rely on focus groups for decisions. They make the decision and live with the consequences.

By the way I like Elko and think he can be successful here.

Bjork wanted Stoops and went behind people's back to hire him. Leaking the story just gave someone/a group of people more ammo to squash it.

Completely agree with this. Obviously I don't know Stoops, but from listening to press conferences and watching his games, it never seemed like a fit. However, we seem to have a really hard time finding the right fit.

There's actually people on here who really believe that crap. Talk about delusional
Do you want to live in the stark reality of poverty... or delusion of half ass grandeur?

This was actually the word I was looking for..lol..I get your point. But it just reminds me of the "Johnny built our stadium", as if planning a 500 million facelift is overnight. That planning was in the works years before.

But to answer your point, I guess many on here do want to live with a half ass delusion of grandeur.

Bjork playing butt-buddies and hiring incestually with his agent's other client. Though elkos agent is also… Jimmy sexton. Would have been an Egregiously poor hire
This. Sexton wanted to get Stoops into the A&M spot because he's worn out his welcome at Kentucky and Elko was doing well enough at Duke he could've landed a job at a lot of places or done one more year at Duke. Had Stoops moved to A&M he'd be one year into a likely 3-4 year deal and have two years of runway and Elko would be a prize candidate this year having (most likely) lead Duke to two 9 win seasons. As it is Stoops may get canned next year and Elko will be in year two at A&M with expectations on improvement.

He beat Ole Miss...
Beating a team he shouldn't and losing to several he shouldn't sounds right on par.

He probably would have won 7 game here in 2024

Elko wasn't Sexton's client anymore at the time.

I do think the entire situation was in big part to Sexton trying to play kingmaker and shuffle clients around for more money. The salary that was supposedly offered to Stoops made absolutely no sense. I wonder if there's a reason it seems that clients of Sexton appear to have been purged from A&M's athletic department.
