Seems to me we learned what the average unproven coach can accomplish with some decent players.



Which is about the same as more seasoned veteran coaches, one of whom won a national championship.

JF+ JFF= never happens with control freak Fisher

FJF + JFF =11-2 and headed to 2nd round of playoffs. Just being able to say "**** that ****" and call something 180 degrees from what Kline just called is worth 2 wins.

There are many people in Bryan and in College Station that whisper that Coach Sumlin was the best coach in the BCS Valley since RC Slocum.

There were high hopes in the Sumlin and Johnny Football era, but the schedule was too tough. Put those same teams in the BIGXII and you are looking at teams that probably make it to the playoffs.

The one thing those teams had was that win or lose you were gonna see a whole hell of a lot of swagger from the A&M sideline. It made for good television. Johnny Football remains a legend in the state of Texas.

So when did we stop looking at the end results? I either missed the memo or you are delusional.

I vote the 2nd because results and winning are the point.

Having a freak Heisman winning athlete at QB can make coaches look better than they actually were. See Jimbo Fisher for another example with Jamies…How is this a delusional take?

Edit - And for the record I'm not saying I'm NOT pissed off about Elko and the way this season ended either.

The schedules were very comparable. Jimbo played Clemson and Alabama. Elko played Texas and Notre Dame. Both beat LSU. Jimbo actually had two bad losses versus Elko's one bad loss in the regular season, but I'm putting last night as a bad loss on Elko. So in the end, both Jimbo and Elko had comparable first years.

Somehow, though, if everyone is being honest, Jimbo had that politician ability to talk a good game and motivate and get everyone excited. Elko doesn't have the same ability to verbally polish a turd.

I think elko can make the change. See what he does in the off season.

Has been a complete failure and didn't leave anything for the fans to be excited about for next year. He admitted his defense sucks and is worse now than at the start of the season. Great job Homer, Doh.

His best season was 2020, which was also the easiest schedule A&M has had in the SEC

If JFF was the QB this season we'd have beaten ND, tu, AU, and maybe SC…and been in the title game and maybe the CFPO.

Which is sad because he really had something and just mailed it in the last few seasons and completely lost control of the team.

Jimbo: 14 (4 in SEC)

Elko: 6 (6 in SEC)

All coaches mentioned replaced fired coaches.

Sumlin brought KK from UH and had JFF on staff like he had Keenum at UH. Kliff doing wonders with the Commanders now.

As a matter of fact it was 6 this year. Next lowest since joining the SEC was 11 in 2012.

Well Jimbo's Defense was pretty dang good in Jimbo's Year 1 (2018).
However after the 2021 Season Jimbo's Defenses took a downhill turn...
Jimbo bought the best defensive players in all the land but they still sucked.
Towards the end of 2023, Jimbo was fired. The End!

Stats don't affect SOS. It's about records of oppenents and some times more complex with taking opponent's opponent record into consideration.
