Soooo, for all of your gamblers, was Clemson really trying to score a TD in the 4th Qtr. with 3rd and Goal at the 1? If so, why would they run it up the middle on t.u.'s d-line when they know it's highly unlikely to be successful? Is there / was there a gambling influence on their play calling???

I'm not questioning the try vs. a FG, as the game was too late for that, but the play calling was suspicious...

We always talk about refs but man, I swear an under table offer to an OC makes as much sense in my eyes honestly.

Less eyes on you, can easily explain away a bad play over "I didn't see the foul", already in CFP so your resume for future jobs is locked, you're a human being too that has debts or just likes cash too.

Not crazy IMO. Just remember, there is someone in your city right now, that would unhesitatingly shank you for the cash in your wallet if they knew they could get away with it.

This also grows from a snide comment I saw on Reddit of Klein getting his revenge for the Heisman loss. I laughed at it, thought, then smirked, thought, then grimaced. Now I'm staring all narrow eyed at CK from now on…..

I never believed game fixing was real until I went to the '06 Holiday Bowl between us and Cal.

The over / under was 55.

Cal was up 38-10 with less than a minute to play. They ran 3 kneel downs inside our 2 yard line, then on fourth down their backup QB sneaked it in for a TD. The extra point hit the # exactly at 55 and the bookies won everything.

How do the bookies win everything in this scenario?

4Q 8:41 2nd and 5 at the TEX 5

OC to Klubnik…."QB dive up the middle, but kneel on the 1 yd line."

"Got it, coach. Will do."

The OP owes Porkchop express a steak dinner for doing such a strong job outdoing his terrible gambling take.

Has he been telling friends and family for 8 years how the bookie won everything?

Bookies get the vig from both sides of the bet and pay out nothing

Ever hear of the Boston college point shaving scandal from the late 70s? And there have been others as well

Game fixing has been going on for as long as there has been sports betting

There is no vig on a push. Both sides get their entire bet back. Bookies get nothing. They only get vig on a non-push.

Michael Lewis has a good book out on sports betting. Online gambling has taken over every aspect of sports. I believe he said they are the biggest advertiser in the country now. They fund most sports podcasts to wear betting and the line is just part of the game now.

One funny thing is is that the higher the 'VIP' you are, means the worse you are at betting. Good betters get banned from the apps. Crazy.

Uhhhhh, what? All I did was ask a question about the play calling, given the spread was 13.5 points. I didn't have a take.

While I do think gambling has a corrupting influence on sports, I am not sure this is a great example of it…

I can't believe he didn't have one friend or family member that didn't explain to him he was dead wrong. I'd like to gamble with those people for sure….
