Because two teams that everyone was convinced didn't belong have proven just that on the field.

Playoffs should be good football, not garbage games that are snoozefests. These teams had no shot to compete and it's a waste of time to include them in a playoff.

You can add Tennessee to that list of shouldn't be there.

12 team playoff is dumb. 5 or 6 teams can truly claim to be the best in the country. A 2 loss SMU had no business playing. Neither did Indiana.
Yep. People wanted an expanded playoff, to try to recreate the thrills of FCS I suppose, and they got it. And they're going to get more playoff games in the future.

But they're not going to get more good games. That's the catch.
All relative. They're going to get a lot better games than they would typically get out of college football at this time of year.

Who really has a chance to win the NCAA basketball tournament? Don't we enjoy those 5 vs 12 first round games just as much even though neither team is probably going to win the championship? It's a matter of perspective
Exactly. I don't really understand why people treat college football so differently than other sports or even different levels of the same sport. It's still only 12 out of 134 FBS teams, that's not excessive. A huge number of college baseball or basketball teams are given a chance. Hell, 14 out of 34 NFL teams make the playoffs. Lots of years there are 6-8 or 7-8 teams still fighting for a slot near the end. I'd much rather see more college football playoff games that actually matter and get rid of all the other bowl games entirely. Talk about utterly pointless... The pollsters have too much power as it is, put more teams in and let them at least have it in their hands.

12 was always too much. But people complained and complained.
The next complaint will be that 1st round games should be at neutral sites.

Actually, the complaint should be that the 4 byes go to the best conference champions. If the byes went to the 4 best teams and the **** conference champions were seeded properly, then maybe these four first round games would be more competitive. Sure, it might be **** conference champion vs played nobody good record. But at least you wouldn't have #1 seed Oregon having to play an Ohio State in their first game.

The playoffs would just be better/more competitive if they were seeded 1-12 by who is the best team.

These announcers are begging us not to question SMU's inclusion in the CFP. Why are they exempt from criticism with this boring ass game? They shouldn't be there, and now we all know it. If this was A&M everyone would be piling on, but for some reason we aren't allowed to draw conclusions about smu from this one game.

I would suggest that we can't criticize SMU because they had a better season than we did.

A perineal 8&4 team criticizing a team that actually MADE the playoff? SMU did this BEFORE perineal 8&4 has. Sure. Criticize them from making the playoff and ******* the bed all ya want, but 8&4 is looking in from the outside AGAIN!

There's been at least one blowout bowl game should we get rid of them too. The playoff is great. We finally get to find out what teams are actually good and which ones are not. The problem is the current playoff is too small not to big.

I have no issue with a payback call

Tennessee did not deserve their spot in the CFP playoff. It was obvious they did not belong.
The Tennessee football team let down all the people in Chattanooga, Memphis and Nashville last night with that performance.

Their spot should have gone to the University of Miami.

The A&M athletic Department or NIL committee needs to offer the coaching staff a bonus if the team makes it to the SEC Championship or the CFP playoffs before 2030.

In todays college football its easier than ever to make the CFP playoffs. Indiana, SMU, and TCU have already made it in recent playoff games.
Boise St is making their initial appearance in 2024.
It wouldn't surprise me if you started seeing schools like Fresno St, Texas Tech or Okie St make appearances in the CFP. These schools sole purpose will be to be serve as sacrificial lambs for the Ohio St's and Alabama of the world.

In related news some Athletic Directors want to expand the NCAA basketball tournament from 68 teams to 96.
In this new way...every school gets a chance to benefit from playing in March Madness.

Umm, ok. Their spot should have gone to Miami, because the ACC teams have been so overwhelming impressive. What a dumb opinion.

I guess alot of people weren't expecting blowouts in the first round of the CFP offs. Instead they got the first round of the NCAA div 1 men's basketball tournament. It was a complete turnoff for those watching on TV. So yeah people should be second guessing the selection committee. Just proved that it doesn't matter whether it's 2, 4, 8 or 12 teams the committee can and will screw it up.

We are going to go a long way to find out that the BCS computers had this thing nailed for the most part. Should be BCS model to pick the 8 best and seed the 8. No byes. Just have an 8 team playoff picked by BCS. Done and done.

12 teams is too many.

We should just go back to the writers and bloggers voting on who the best two teams are.
All we need to see is who wins between Oregon and Georgia, and be done with it.

Thanks captain obvious. But I will continue to criticize a flash in the pan with a historically weak schedule who got absolutely annihilated against a team that actually earned its spot by beating someone of relevance. And yes, we are the better program and will continue to be, even if we underperform. When SMU is an afterthought just like TCU is now, you too will realize that playing cupcakes all season hides a ton of warts .
TexasAGGIEinAR

SMU vs. Indiana should've been a play-in game, like the First 4 in Dayton for basketball.

Also, no 3 loss SEC team was "deserving" of a spot. You can't lose 3 games and be owed sh*t. Bama, don't get humiliated and fly halfway across America to put up a 3 spot against OU in a blowout. Ole Miss, don't lose at home to a garbage Kentucky team. South Carolina, don't start the season 3-3. Doesn't matter how you lost, you lost. A P5 11-1 team and a P5 11-2 conference runner-up are always going to make it. I still see SMU as a mid-major and I forget, most of the time, that they are in the ACC now.

Had we snuck in, in either manner that SMU or IU did, we would be pleased as hell. We can be critical all we want, but had we been in their positions and been told that we weren't deserving and were left out, the world would still be burning. Fact of the matter is, the top 8 are leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the field. That's all it is.

A&M would have made a 12 team playoff in 2012 and 2020.

A&M will make it to some playoffs in the future. Yes, we have underachieved but sheer size and conference weight plus playoff expansion will occasionally get us in.

Bold prediction on SMU and TCU for that matter. One hit wonders on making it to a playoff. I think it unlikely either make it again in the foreseeable future.
SABUILDERAG

If you are going to have a DEI playoff, then at least have the DEI teams play each other in the opening round.

1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Ohio State
4. sip
5. ND
6. Penn State
7. Indiana
8. Tennessee
9. Boise St.
10. SMU
11. Arizona State
12. Clemson

If Arizona State and Boise would have been in tOSU and sips places this last week, we might have had some decent games.

Tennessee vs. Boise State could have been interesting
Clemson vs. Notre Dame would have at least been close
Arizona St. vs. PSU would have been fun
SMU vs. Indiana would have been a shootout

The second round matchups would have made more sense as well with Oregon playing Boise St. instead of Ohio State. It is ridiculous that Oregon as the #1 seed will have to play Ohio State and sip just to get to the final. The #1 should get an easy path, not the toughest possible.

Oregon vs. Boise St.
Georgia vs. Indiana
Ohio State vs. Penn State
sip vs. Notre Dame

Final Four
Oregon vs. sip
Georgia vs. Ohio State

Championship
Oregon vs. Ohio State

Instead we got uncompetitive games in round one and we will get what might be the National Championship game in round 2.

SMU earned the right to play by being conference champs. To get the total playoff scheme initiated lesser conferences needed one guaranteed slot for conference championship to get to 12 teams
