SMU record if they were in the SEC

Is SMU legit? What would their record likely be with our schedule this year?

ND loss
McNeese win
Florida loss
Bowling Green win (maybe)
Arky loss
Mizz loss
Miss. St. win
LSU loss
USCe loss
NM St. win
Auburn loss
sips loss

I'd say 4-8, maybe 5-7 if they sneak another win against Florida or Arky. Instead, they're in the dam CFB playoffs… They gave Clemson a run, but not sure they would be able to play at a high-level for an entire season in the SEC. And we had an easier draw this year with no GA, Ole Piss, or Tenn.

I watched them play a lot this year. They are a good team. I think they would have beat Florida, Ark, and MO and at the beginning of the year South Carolina….as would we.

Honestly probably 8-4. Not terrible, but not in the playoffs.

Agree.
Their little QB is good… and their Oline protects him. However he makes some amazing throws.

I haven't watched them much, but some. Hard to believe that they are basically on the same level as us, and we're both behind the sips.

Sickening to think about after all of these years of believing that we were actually building a top-tier program. The BAS is for real.

Same with Indiana. They played a worse schedule than SMU and no Conference Championship game.

Dont have the Oline and Dline and depth to play a physical SEC schedule 6-6

11-1 only losing to Texas( with kevin Jennings starting every game). The lack of respect for the Ponies is laughable.

How many SEC defenses did they protect him against?

5 wins tops.

SMU's QB plays a lot of JFF ball.
Once he's pressured he can stay upright long enough to improve and find a target that's broke off their route and found a soft spot.

And that's only gonna go so far, especially against championship caliber teams.
And Clemson doesn't qualify.

No what's laughable is thinking the go 11-1 with our schedule

while i do think smu is a bit disrespected there is no way they are going 11-1 with an sec schedule. their lack of depth woud ultimately get it exposed and they would fade as the season progressed. they would probably go anywhere from 6-6 to 9-3 this season depending on a ton of variables.

Another entitled aTm thread about a team that overachieved. SMU played the schedule their league gave them. They also signed on with the ACC without receiving any "league money" from the conference. Besides Arizona State, SMU has has been as impressive or more, than any other team in a major conference. TexAgs loves to ***** about things that could've, would've, should've happened. aTm had a fairly easy schedule this year- if they'd taken care of their business, they might still be playing.

Every team plays the schedule their league gives them.

They're a very old team. Only like 3 starters that's aren't at least in their 4th year. I think they win 6, maybe 7

So in other words, they did all that was required of them / needed to do, to warrant a playoff berth.

SMU and Indiana made the playoffs. They are not traditional football schools. We are not either. It should give us hope I suppose, but my BAS says both teams will make it back before we make our first trip…

Strength of schedule should matter and some teams with three losses played a much tougher schedule including 4-5 top 25 teams. The committee needs to factor that in somehow and not just a team's W-L record, which is exactly how they did this year's rankings.

My son, an aTm graduate from the class of 2012 made my TexAgs account. I've been on TexAgs for over 15 years. Nothing I posted wasn't true, you just didn't like it.

Wrong. You said everyone was *****ing about what could've, would've, yada yada yada. The thread title and the comments are about SMU and whether or not they are deserving of the stage they're on. Why shouldn't their strength of schedule and quality of opponents be a factor in the conversation when every team plays a different schedule? It's not exactly apples and apples, bruh.

How do you figure SMU loses to Auburn?

SMU beat Cal by over 30. Cal beat Auburn.

Do we really have to debate circular logic like this? This scenario plays about dozens of times every season. It's a weak argument to support that SMU is deserving of a CFB spot over the likes of Bama, USCe,
and others.

Of course it can go dozens of ways, I just don't think Auburn would beat SMU. However, since the theme of this thread is based on hypotheticals and you bring up Bama, do you think SMU could beat Oklahoma?

Vegas might call it a toss-up if they played late in the year, but OU would probably be favored early in the year, based on talent and history alone. Who knows, though… I just assume that SMU and Indiana don't belong over Bama, USCe, and others.
