Uhm….that makes 6 rcvrs/TE's we've captured…

1. Was the TE room that depleted/lacking of talent? I guess when you drop the ball at key times in the game, this is what you get….
2. It sure seems that we have extreme confidence in the maroon goons we have on campus that they can keep Reed protected enough to throw to these guys…
We'll see….

The TEs we brought in had seven combined receptions last year, so it is hard to be confident they will catch the ball in key situations!

I could be wrong, but from what I've read I think both the TEs we've picked up in the portal are considered blocking TEs. (shoulder shrug)

So, not only did the TE's that we have couldn't catch, that can't block either???
Ugh…..

We will not be throwing (much) to these guys. I'm sure they will swing out for passes here and there to keep defenses honest, but they are mostly for blocking. Especially in the red zone and short yardage.

we lost a few tight ends and the ones we had left are not considered good blockers.

neither are sexy pickups but when you need a yard on fourth down a good blocking tight end could be the difference maker. both these guys fill that role which is important for the offense we run.

What TEs did we have besides

  • Theo? You need depth. Theo has potential to be the best all around TE we have, but as of this seaso, he had also has played less American football than any TE in the sec. He's only just now coming into form to be realistically relied upon.

  • Donovan Green, who may or may not ever recover completely from injury?

  • Eric Karner, who's a true fish and also recovering from injury?

  • Kiotti Armstrong, another true fish?

Those were our 4 TEs before the portal. There was really only one in that group that I think you can truly have confidence in. We are still looking at yet another TE who is more of a receiving threat like Klare, if we can land one.

We gotta have somebody to block on the edge while we run up the middle for no gain…

Depth, and we may be looking at 2 TE formations.

At most we have 3 returning TEs. We signed 1 in our class. That makes 4 max

We need to have at least 4/5 that are a receiving threat and another 2/3 that are more for blocking. Ideally you have a mix of receiving abd blocking in one TE but you will still need that TE that is more of an OT for goalline/short yardage.

So 6/7 TE going into next year is probably the magic number.

Or could either be used as a fullback in a short yardage situation?

A fair amount of our A gap stuffed plays were stuffed by guys off the edge, actually. Outside of a QB sneak, you still need a solid edge block and we did not have it this year.

Our OL play improved significantly vs last year. I expect more growth going into next year.

There may be 10 of these in the NFL (maybe) so setting your expectation here is unrealistic at best. Most folks need a reality check...

100% agree it's rare to find a TE that's a true receiving threat and great blocker.

We will stack them three deep behind the center for our up the middle runs on 4th and short.

It would be nice if we see growth going into next year in the number of OL on the roster.

Absolutely not

The chances of us adding more than 1 is very unlikely

Um. Not even close

We needed blocking TE and that's what we got. Plus we are still in the mix for the #1 TE

Not even close. One can easily argue the opposite. A) Many of the guys we have "lost" are because we aren't pushing as hard as the team we lost too. No, not all, but many of them. and B) we have less overall spots to fill in the portal than many other teams.

2 tight ends and a 225 lb. fullback, and dare them to stop 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

bold strategy, especially since our OL proves we're capable of going -2 yds when we only need +1 yd in a critical situation, multiple times, multiple opponents

After looking a little closer, he also managed to miss 9 out of every 10 blocks he was asked to make. Does that help?

We need TEs who can block SEC DEs and LBs in 2025. These guys appear to have the tools that fit the bill. In terms of making an impact in the passing game, we might have our most athletic WR room ever with the guys on the team right now. Of course that is on paper and not based on experience outside of Noah Thomas and Bussey. Players like the two TEs do nothing but strengthen a roster. Welcome aboard!
