We really need more experienced OL depth imo. We are always going to have injuries here and need to be prepared.
We may take an Ot if it's world or another stud, but that's about it.
We have 17 OL on scholarship as of now. That's already more than most teams carry. It's possible 1-2 more leave but even then, most teams carry 14-16. We would need to lose about 3-4 more to add 2. I'd expect 1 max here unless we have a rash of attrition.
I get it, and I expect our OL to be the best they've been since '20 next year. But I also know that we'll have an injury to one of our starters so want an experienced backup which is where I feel like we're lacking. Shanahan and Kam were those guys and losing them isn't good for us. Ideally someone that will be a backup but is potentially capable of competing for a starting role, has 2 years of eligibility left so can win a starting spot their final year. Big wish I know, but OL is where games are won imo.beerad12man said:Bill Superman said:Most of those 17 are inexperienced and true fish. I'd honestly think anyone would be crazy to only carry 14. 14 is on the low end but still pretty normal. 15-16 is average.
But either way, it's one of the most experienced ols we have ever as things stand. We return 7 different guys who have started multiple games. Probably about 5 teams in the country that can say that. 5 redshirt seniors, a redshirt junior, and junior in our top 7. Not many can say that, either. The odds of having 10 guys with extensive playing time is virtually zero
Like I said, we may add one if the right guy comes.Maybe 2 if we lose a couple, but I doubt that. And you aren't running off true fish. That makes no sense
But this OL was better than the 2019 ol and the 2025 ol is about only OL that compares to the experience of 2020.
2020 was elite because they returned a lot of SRs. Very similar to what the 2025 sets up as.
Well not only do I want us to reserve one more spot for an experienced OL such as the one we're after from Nebraska, but I don't just want a good OL next season then start back over like we did under Jimbo. I want to be able to have a good OL in '26, and it's not going to happen relying on all the youngsters coming in now. We need experience in between our olds and young guys. Somebody on staff agrees with me in their pursuit of the OT from Nebraska and I'd love to see him join, he's exactly what we need to fill the gap.beerad12man said:
I get that we all want a perfect roster, but no team in the country is going to have 9 juniors and seniors on the ol. People leave if they aren't guaranteed starters. Every team will have a RFR or RSO to fill out there top 8-9 guys. We are in excellent shape depth wise compared to most.
We would have to have 3 injuries before getting past the juniors. If none of the 4 redshirts are worth a darn, we may see a drop off.
Both Shanahan and dewberry kind of stunk this year and could have easily been our 9th or even 10/11th OL. no guarantee whatsoever they'd be better than Ivy/funk/ahfua next spring or even Lamont Rogers will be next year. Texags staff has said many times Shanahan was flat out told he would be in a fight to stay 2nd string next spring. It would have been a dogfight. We didn't even try to keep him nor are looking for an OG to replace him. They are already on campus. If we add anyone, it's an OT to compete with crownover.

Haha, hard to disagree with that one after this season. Hopefully our OL can take care of it for us next year.2Legit_92 said:
We could use a big, power back (think Jamaar Toombs) that can gain one tough yard when almost everyone knows you're going to run it up the middle.

We have such an DL issue. Way too much youth that will not be SEC ready out of the gate (just can't be strong enough and big enough Hicks is case in point as top 5 star and he took awhile; we don't have a Nolen in the young group, but hope Sanders can be a surprise).
Besides Regis and Hicks, we have really no one ready to plug and play in rotation (need 3 deep of rotation as Hicks/Regis will need breaks or will be gassed by half).
Will be lots of complaining next year as we will be gashed up the middle if this is where we stand. But, think staff will grab 2 DTs in portal (or someone who can play 3 or 5 tech like Turner could). Rink might be able to, but just don't expect it out of the gate (although he's a strong dude).

Seems we need as many DTs as we can get. 2 would be minimum you would think. I'd like to see 3 or 4

Really nothing, but the amount of 300lb guys on our dline right now are limited. If we can't portal a guy, now you're talking about having a freshman in there if we see a few injuries

I'd be fine with that. Giant weakness. Get 10 and find the 6 or 7 that can play at level we need.
How many of the 10 would be true fish that really shouldn't see the field if we have proper depth? Would seem to me playing at elite level at DT as a true freshman has to be incredibly hard.

Could land that DL Nico from Arky. Would be a solid addition. Between us and ucla apparently.soleta27 said:

They're out there somewhere. But I'd prefer to have an OL that can allow any of our backs to gain a single yard.deer corn said:2Legit_92 said:

Do they even make these anymore?
