Why don't we just put a pile of money at midfield?

Reminds me of the scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High:

Wow, does he really live here? I thought he just flew in for the games.

That's all that matters to these "players"

Skip the plays and the refs and just let them fight over the money like dogs.

We would end up with a pile of Jimbo's

Wouldn't it be more effective to put the money in the end zone?
Only if we want the players to never find it!

I'm with you. I made my living by working on commission.
If I didn't sell I didn't eat…. Plus I would get fired.
Make them work for it. You get paid by your stats per position played. Period.
It will never be that though. It's out of control and doubt it can be fixed at this point.
Soon we will be paying them in high school…. then all the way down to Pop Warner and Mighty Mite leagues.
Sadly… as these kids go through life and find out that money can't really buy happiness it will be too late for many of them.
Soon?
Its already here. NIL is the three letter word that changed amateur sports forever.
You are already starting to see high school stars negotiate NIL deals. 10 years from now this will be the new normal for schools that want to have the ultimate bragging rights in college sports.

The idea that most of these kids didn't "work" to get where they are is kind of the problem with lots of these posts. Yes, many of these kids have freakish natural ability - but many of these kids are working with trainers all through HS and killing themselves to try and get the opportunity to play college ball. They didn't just wake up, demand $1M NIL and get it.

The value you brought to your company was the money you could make them.

If they thought that value was high enough, they'd have made their offer to you enough that make sure you join them.

That's what is happening here.

YOU may not think it is worth it, but clearly some folks think that some of these kids are worth these investments.

It's always interesting to me when people who seem to live by a sort of "you are worth what you can get" mantra suddenly feel like they're in a place to tell others that they're not worth what they're getting.

This is supply and demand in the purest sense of the term.

Did I miss something? Did we lose a player?

OP- if they didn't pay you, would you go to work?
They got paid even before NIL. It was scholarships (and the other official benefits that came with being an athlete).

Many of you speak from a position of having money, even lower middle class. Many of these players grew up below the poverty line and you act like they should care more about a trophy or showing more commitment than is often shown to them than earning a larger sum of money in 1 year than their family has ever seen.

Money ain't everything but not having it is

decades ago many football players were poor and came from low income families

but nowadays many, many D1 players come from affluence or middle class at worst

in part because many more come from the suburbs as opposed to the inner city

H.I.S.D. used to produce tons of bluechip recruits every year (Yates, Jones, Wheatley, Kashmere, etc..,) but not anymore

I hate the current system. The portal & NIL sux, IMO.

I said before it happened that it will make college football worse and I was not a fan (unless it brings A&M a championship...yes I am a hypocrite.)

PSU just lost their back-up QB before the playoffs to the portal. This will most likely happen more often now. And don't even get me started on teams losing players that are not in the playoffs.

This is beautiful. We told you it was coming. Enjoy.

Want to bet we still have lots of players on our team who don't come from affluent backgrounds? The schools may have changed but I suspect the demographics haven't changed much.

Players now show similar loyalty to the school that in the past, schools showed the players.

So hypocritical for anyone to tell someone else how much they are worth.

These twitch gamers make millions doing something I find zero value but what I think does not matter.

Mr Beast makes hundreds of million a year and i would not pay him a cent BUT that doesn't matter.

The Mona Lisa is worth about 1Bil. I would not even pick it up at a garage sale BUT that doesn't matter.

Truthfully, Most people who do work have very little value to the vast majority of people But that doesn't matter.

I bet if your boss came to you tomorrow and offered a 200% pay raise, you would gladly accept it and not say, "well I am not doing any more work, so I don't want the $$".

These kids have people throwing $$ at them and essentially can go to the highest bidder. This is how the game is played and they are just doing what is best for them. Don't get mad at the kids, get mad at the game.

If you really want to fix the game, then stop donating to A&M so they can't "overpay" players. I am sure no one is complaining when we are the top bidders and get all these portal players or 5* players.

It boggles my mind why anyone cares if these players get paid or not. The money is not coming out of my pocket or yours.

And for those who say the transfer portal and NIL is ruining college football...When was the last time you saw such a balanced SEC at the top of the standings?? NIL and the transfer portal hurts the top tier legacy programs, It doesn't hurt programs of our size. In fact I would argue that schools our size have an advantage because we can offer lots of money to come and play and actually start, get noticed, have a chance at the playoffs, and even be drafted.

Or in the "old way"...you could be paid under the table to go and ride the bench at the bamas, georgias, and ou's.

So why does the current system hurt your feelings???

I mean how much more is he gonna make elsewhere?

I hope he gets passed over and ends up playing for peanuts in the Sunbelt.

If the players are not students why wouldn't I just watch NFL? It's just a pro team with a school name on the Jersey.
It's just the minor leagues with team loosely tied to schools that people went to. Most players don't care about the school. Many do not care about their education. But if they can make 7 figures in a couple of years, then a degree in Sports Management seems like a waste of time. College football, like everything else, is just an excuse for people that don't play to talk **** to other people that don't play.

Why would a dog fight over money

I taught my dog about NIL. Now I have to give her a treat before she'll eat, sleep, or poop.

And she won't even touch her toys anymore without at least a few boneless wings.
94chem,
