No names mentioned, but they may have come up with a smart scheme. You sign a NIL, get the money and get some kind of nagging injury then don't play. You go to the pros sign a big contract and get a nagging injury. Bingo! You've got enough to live your life out in luxury. Milking the system.

Better option is to negotiate some nil deal where you reduce paying if you reduce playing

Not possible.
Assuming you are correct, that needs to be in any contract if your gonna pay a college kid that much money. How effing stupid is it to leave that out.

Quitting is quitting. Opting out is quitting without consequences.

It's against state law, so it would be stupid to include it.

Would you risk your future for a meaningless bowl? I wouldn't.

Good for him.

He didn't show up the second half of the season anyway, so no big loss

It doesn't really matter. Scourton disappeared from mid season on. Unless he played the second half of season hurt, he's an NFL project at best because his play was not elite at all. Could never get consistent pressure and couldn't set the edge to save his life. Slow too.

Projects do not get drafted in the first round. I'm speculating he pulled back on the throttle to avoid injury in advance of his professional career.

Non-CFP bowls are now about next year. They need to spin the promos to be about a preview of next year.

3rd RD IMO

Good skills, but takes plays off and unsure of his motor based on what we saw this year.

Projected 1st round (so is S Stewart) across several "services", but will depend on his testing and individual workouts to solidify that status.

While I also noted production down in Nov, also think we didn't rotate DL enough (lacked true depth or staff didn't trust 2nd/3rd rotation as much) to keep him fresh for Q4. Teams also schemed him better w some doubles/chips/plays away. tu OL was just better and quick passing game.

We'll see, but have to root for him to succeed next level and hopefully give back to the University (helps with recruiting and dollars).

Yeah I'd rather see a decent amount of young players get minutes in this bowl game.

Everyone who opts out should be left at home.

Don't bring them to the game and let them roam the sidelines.

I'm actually good with this. No reason to waste money and pay to send former players to a free trip.

Didn't he opt out of the last couple of games too, can't remember seeing him.

Hard to blame him. If we were in the playoffs that's a different thing but risking a lucrative pro contract for the LAs Vegas Bowl…. I wouldn't.

So, S. Stewart declared for the draft on 12/9, but haven't seen if he's opted out of the bowl. Would presume yes, but no one has announced that or did I miss that?

The new character test for all these NFL teams should be whether these big draft picks have the balls to play in their bowl games… or if they are going to walk off the field in the third quarter because it's raining and they don't want to play anymore…
The 49ers suspended Campbell for the season's final three games, president of football operations/general manager John Lynch confirmed in a statement on Monday after NFL Media's Ian Rapoport first reported the news.

"We have suspended De'Vondre Campbell Sr. for three games due to conduct detrimental to the team," Lynch's statement read. "We will have no further comment on the matter."

As a 49ers fan, I am glad the 49ers suspended him instead of releasing him to prevent him from signing with another team until after his 1-year contract expires.

I am not surprised that Nic Scourton opted out of the Las Vegas Bowl because many teams have key players opting out of non-CFP bowl games to preserve themselves for the NFL draft or entering the transfer portal to go to a different team. This is a great opportunity for Scourton's backup to audition for a starting job next year.

They should figure out a way to structure NIL deals to be tied to games played.... and reserve a higher percentage for bowl games.

Why would you tie more to a "meaningless game"?

This should be evaluated case-by-case. The one and done transfer guys, sure. The guys that played and stayed but are making a business decision that removes them from a high risk, no reward bowl game... no problem letting them be with their team. As I age and understand what is required for a decent retirement, I have a hard time arguing against the decision which is, at the end of the day, risk mitigation. I would have, and may have, argued furvently the other way 20 years ago. The game is changing much like perspectives do over time.

Uhmmm... to get them to finish the season. And if it truly is a meaningless game, we shouldn't have accepted the invite.

Shemar Turner just declared for the draft. I would imagine Scourton, Stewart, and Turner all are out for the bowl.

Why not? It's just for fun. And people still watch on TV.

Such a novel idea and one that is coming from a rational place

What player walked off during the rain in the 3rd quarter?
