Apparently the state QB agent started letting other schools know a while back he's looking for a possible move. Looking for 1.5 mil NIL deal.

So Lebby I'm sure reached out to Arnold since he already recruited him at OU and coached him his redshirt year. Problem solved.

Who knows where the state QB ends up. His gamble might not pay off.

Ideally a combination of Mizzou and second half LSU.

I'm still high on Myles ONeal's potential.

Welp. Don't understand how the world we don't go after that kid. He's electric and as someone else said, he's probably your day one starter here.

Van B 's supporting cast was far worse than Reed's - stats not everything

Everybody thinks he is a better qb - just looked at his plays

Van Buren was a true freshman on an absolutely terrible team. lol at people using Reed's marginally better stats to say he's the better player. Come on. The kid carried them against Georgia and ole miss in the two games I saw him play. He would have a lot more talent around him here and it's not close

Probably just the Mizzou game offense. No way was it the plan pre game or at halftime to run zone read so much.

Klein was just doing what great OCs do when a defense shows you they can't handle something. He just kept hammering them with it.

Van Buren would probably have worked really well for us, but if he was asking for top-dollar NIL, we have to say no. He'd likely just be coming to compete with Reed and O'Neill, not to just be the shoe-in starter. We've gotta roll with the QBs we've recruited.

LSU might be scary with Van Buren once the Nuss Bus leaves though

Didn't realize Van Buren was a 5-star in the last recruiting class and was committed to Oregon for a long time. He's definitely an elite talent

Really wish we'd at least tried to kick the tires.

He wasn't a 5 star at least not in his final rankings.

247 had him as a 3
On3 had him as a 3
ESPN had him as a 4
Rivals had him as a 4

He was barely a top 300 on 247 composite and nearly 400 on On3 composite.

He showed promise this year but there was 0% chance he was a take for us. Coaches like our QB room and for good reason.

I'm probably being pessimistic, but Van Buren feels like the kind of guy who will be a thorn in our side as long as he's around.

Reed had a much better comp % (+6.4), a much better td/INt ratio (3:1 vs 1.6:1), WAY better runner, a much better QBR (+12.2), and a significantly better QB rating (+18.5).

Van Buren had good WR, that's why they are heavily recruited out of the portal. But their run game was horrible and their defense was really bad.

Reed played in 10 games this year and started 7
Van Buren played in 9 games and started 8

Hasn't been revealed. My understanding is he is holding back most of the playbook until we are playing for the national championship.

Can someone point us toward Reed's good passing games this past year? Is it just the Auburn game?

I feel like I'm in an upside-down world on here reading about Reed being a "big time talent" or "good QB". He had plenty of time behind our OL plenty often too - not that he was that very evasive when pressured unless sprinting out.

Oh ok I went to YouTube and saw his high school highlights and they had it as 5-star. That must have been early in the process.

Yea I like Reed and think he's a big time talent. Just would have liked another young guy to push him. All any of us can do is trust the coaches I guess

I think a lot are sleeping on O'Neil. He has an arm on him and knows touch. We need experience more than talent right now.

I'd love to see more of him in the bowl game.

Define "good". If you count LSU he played in 6 SEC games.

He looked great vs Auburn.
He was very efficient vs Florida.
He was outstanding vs LSU. If you're going to say he only threw two passes well they went for 70 yards.
He was ok vs Arkansas and struggled the second half of USCe and Texas.

He was the 5th QB in the SEC by QBR. No one in the SEC was consistently great this year. Beck and Nuss were turnover machines at times. Milroe was inconsistent and Dart threw three picks in a game Ole Miss had to have. Reed was better than Ewers in QBR and just behind him in QB rating (which is more pass slanted).

The modern college game has a LOT more QB running than ten years ago. You don't have as many consistent 300+ yard QBs, especially not in the SEC.

LSU and Ol Miss off to good starts in trxfr portal pickups as both have hit needs and upgrades. Ol Miss getting top 2 DEs (well, 2 of top 5 some would say) and then appears to be a lot of Pig players.

Hopefully he's not another Aggie QB who gets showered with superlatives but then flops when he sees the field. Have seen that too many times to get excited by the next big thing.

What a gut punch for Miss State fans worried in the NIL free agency era that their team will be largely treated as a development feeder program for its richer conference mates.
