This approach looks good on a message board, but in a real world with limited resources you need a coach and others in the program to evaluate what our budget is, what our needs are and then allocate accordingly. If we are going after the most expensive player in the portal each year even when that person isn't playing the position of highest need for us, we are going to find it a lot harder to plug other holes we have elsewhere.

This year, I'd argue we need experience and depth at QB. But we need to be directing our big money in the portal at other needs, like playmakers at WR and restocking the DL.

Looking at last year and the very early way things are developing this year, I'm pretty optimistic about the way Elko is managing the portal.

So many here assume that recruiting resources are infinite. I'm not talking about money or NIL. I'm talking about man hours.

To the point about Cam Ward vs Conner Weigman.... the entire universe thought Weigman was a stable, high quality QB. Why should we use a visit spot, send a recruiter, spend the time to have the phone calls, etc. with a portal QB from Washington State if we thought we had a QB?

Similar position here. Staff likely thinks Reed is the guy going forward. It appears we've found some easy and experienced depth that fits the description Klein wants in a QB and will move on to address other/greater needs.

He'll probably come in to compete but I doubt they guarantee him the job. Weigman, Longstreet, and Henderson all left because the writings on the wall. It's Reeds job to lose.

Also why not finish your degree at A&M? Probably better than finishing it at UAB.

Reed had a very good QBR. Closed the year (last 4 games) with 64%+ completion percentage. Average 230 yards a game down the stretch, even with his season low of 146 vs tu. But our entire team looked like ass outside a select few and Reed was our best player on offense that game. Plus none of this includes his rushing stats.

One last thing Auburn, USC, and tu were all top defenses in the SEC

He does need to improve but he was a RS freshmen and now has only played in 10games.

I don't understand this fanbase's obsession with Henderson after he was the 3rd string QB two years in a row under two different coaching staffs. Just because he made some good plays against bad defenses last season?

Sometimes you gotta just let the facts talk to you. Henderson wouldn't have given us anything better than what we got. Likely a lot worse.

I don't understand much of anything about this post... All of our rostered QBs have been in the playbook all season. He was QB3 because he was the 3rd best QB on the team behind Weigman and Reed.

What is the desperate move? Recruiting Zeno? Henderson is already in the portal, so he's not gonna be here. We need a veteran backup that will come in and push Reed. That's the value added.

He's third string because he was our third best QB to start the season. Plus we're not sure but O'Neil very easily could have legit jumped him as well. Weigman and Henderson leaving is not surprising at all.
