One minute playing for all the gold, the next playing Care Bears in Shreveport and playing not to lose

With the expanded playoff feel bowls are gonna to have real problems getting butts in seats, IMO. So many teams had playoff hopes 2 weeks ago and won't care about a bowl game now. When there were only 4 spots many teams were already trying to figure out their bowl options the last month.

I bet we see almost exclusively empty bowls

Now that there is an expanded playoff the bowl games need to go. FCS has a 24 team playoff and that is where we are headed.

I don't think you will , I belive attendance will be about same. Bowl games are an event and people / families that travel to them usually care more about the trip/ experience than the actual outcome of the games.
Pageantry is still there, game is still gonna be played with 11 on offense and 11 on defense … even with opt outs and most of the bowls not carrying as much weight I don't see attendance taking a hit

No thanks. Wife is an ACU grad so will probably be heading that way. Been to almost every bowl in the past 25 years. Tradition i started back when i was a fish and we made the sugar bowl. Figured it was my wifes turn.

Bowl games need to go. They were always meaningless exhibition games. Then they got worse with the portal and opt-outs. Then they got devalued again with the playoffs taking the top 12 teams and having multiple rounds to play it out.

I think 24 teams is too much though. Before this season there was an argument about the regular season being devalued too much by the playoffs. With 12 teams I think it is clear that wasn't true. It actually expanded the number of "meaningful games" across the board by keeping more teams with post season hopes alive. I think 24 is at that point where you will start to devalue the regular season. There would be scenarios where a team in the ~12 range wouldn't be able to jump into a top 4 (bye) but also wouldn't be in danger of falling out of the top 24. I could see those teams pulling players and resting in the last week (or two).

The maximum I think you would want is 16. They might do it for $$$. Based on how things played out I think 12 is good though.

Lmao

This team couldn't get motivated to play scar, auburn, or sip while they chased a spot at the sec title

How tf are they gonna get motivated to play a meaningless game in Houston against baylol??

Season is over

Coaches love them. They'll never go away. Extra month of practices, a chance for a trophy in the cabinet, and an extra talking point to recruits.

It's the upperclassmen sitting out that makes them so boring.

They'll probably put LSU in Texas since we were just there

We're being slated to play Minnesota in Nashville at the Music City Bowl. LSU will be playing in Houston. OU will play in Shreveport.

LSU vs their old DC, Aranda. It's a shoe-in.

Where are you seeing that? I've seen Gator, Outback, and Vegas, but not Music City.

I'll go against Baylor - no travel? School we used to play in the big 12? reasonable ticket price? sounds like a fun day with the family to me.

This right here.

Coaches love Bowl games because you get to end your season with a win....even if you are not in the playoffs or National Title hunt.

In basketball, baseball...etc the only team in the post season that ends their season without a loss is the National Champion.

Think of college football as entertainment, and enjoy the game

This. Bowl games are fun, and why would anyone be against extra college football?

I doubt the SEC would send A&M to Houston in back to back years unless Elko approved it. Bowl games are about travel experiences for student-athletes as well.

That's what it's always been to those of us who didn't play at that level.

The bowls don't matter any more or less than they have for years.

They still make money for ESPN and the other networks because the people who enjoy having football on TV drastically outnumber the people who whine about them on the internet.

Georgia and the sips could play each other three times in one season?

Rematches are why the expanded playoffs will suck.

ETA: What about the travel costs for these schools? And will the fans show up for that many games against the same opponent?

I'm a single dad with a 16 yo, or I'd be all over the Las Vegas Bowl. 12/27 is the day before my birthday. I suspect a birthday on the Strip would be a hell of a lot of fun (even at my age).

Vegas Bowl >> Houston Bowl

While none of our starting DL will be playing either, at least we get to see who is willing to step up for next year.

Bowls that have/had Pac12 tie-ins can pick a former PAC team for this year and next.

We've played in that bowl 5 times out of its 24 years of existence. Yeah, we "own" that bowl game.

Can A&M refuse to play in a bowl game. From what I saw in these last few weeks anyone can beat A&M. The play calling is so predictable a halfway decent DC can call every play A&M is going to run! Plus when you play not to lose, YOU LOSE!

Technically the Texas Bowl has only been around since 2006 and in its existence we do have more appearances in it than any other school in the country with 4.

Now if you go back to the galleryfurniture.com/ Houston bowl which existed from 2000-2005 and include that we are tied for the most appearances with Texas Tech at 5
Nobody has 4 appearances
Kansas state , oklahoma state and TCU have 3
Several have 2

Believe it or not some of these kids like playing football. Others will want to maintain their position on the depth chart. Others will want to take advantage of the opportunity to prove themselves with upper classmen holding out for the draft.

There's plenty of reasons. Should I go on?
