Beat us to the NC playoffs. Go figure. There coaching staff as a whole does not make as much as ELKO.

SMU may be better than us. But do you think SMU makes the playoff with our schedule?

This years schedule? Yes. We can ***** about Texas' schedule all we want, but ours was comparably easy by SEC standards. SMU may have lost to Notre Dame, but it would have at least been a good game. They definitely would beat Auburn, probably SC, and could beat Texas. We can talk all the crap about SMU we want, but they have a great offense that stud players want to play in. And their defense is legit. Not paper tigers like ours who can get hands on ball carriers in the backfield all day long, but allow those plays to miraculously become double digit gains. SMU's defense is better than that.

The question is what would our record be with their schedule? Probably 8-4 as always.

You ought to bet then and take the points. SMU is a slight 1.5 favorite on FanDuel.

Smu is better than us and they would of won the SEC with our schedule.

They are likely better than us but they absolutely wouldn't be in the playoff mix with our schedule. They needed a blocked FG to beat Duke. The talent of our opponents would result in at least 3-4 losses for them. Even my SMU grad wife thinks so.

By every metric I can find for strength of schedule, SMU is way below A&M.

A&M 23
SMU 77

A&M 10
SMU 49

A&M 23
SMU 77
https://www.si.com/fannation/college/cfb-hq/rankings/college-football-rankings-strength-of-schedule-top-25-teams

Yes, it sucks they're in the playoffs and we are not, but lets be realistic here. SMU would not have won the SEC with our schedule.

You have to really wonder if playing a harder schedule is worth it if in the last 30 years there are no trips to Atlanta, and only one trip to the BIGXII title game.

Florida St and Miami became powerhouse programs in the 1990's when they were the only big dog football programs in the ACC and BIG East.

Would you rather be the big fish in a small pond, or a big fish in a huge pond with other big fishes?
Texas fled the BIGXII because they were tired of TCU and Baylor kicking their ass....so it works both ways.

They would have beaten 3 of Notre Dame, South Carolina, LSU, Texas, and Missouri?

Florida would have been the hardest game on their schedule.

Its not a coincidence that UT fled the BIGXII when TCU almost won the National Title in football.
Its also not a coincidence that UT fled the BIGXII when Baylor won the National Championship in basketball and then tied them in BIGXII football titles with 3.

TCU went 8-4 against Texas after A&M left the BIGXII.
Texas alums were starting to feel that schools they felt were lesser than them......were passing them on the field.

I don't know if you know this about the Texas Longhorns...but there is a long history in this state of a school doing really well in football.....and suddenly UT does something weird....or a scandal happens at said school that is fueled by journalist from Austin.

SMU and A&M in the 1980's.
Baylor under Briles
TCU over the past 10 years...etc

UT was getting regularly pasted by OU, TCU and Baylor in the new BIGXII and they fled for the SEC.

SMU is going to be 8th, possibly 7th in the rankings tonight.

Unless they get beat by five touchdowns, they are getting in the playoffs, even with a loss to Clemson

So the committee will leave out conference champions Clemson? Or Miami? Because I don't think 3 ACC teams are getting in…

The rankings this week are meaningless. There is going to be a lot of horse trading behind the scenes to balance out who gets in from what conferences.

The fact is they have reached a conference championship game and the playoffs before the Ags. I have been a die-hard supporter of A&M since the first game I attended in the 90s. There are no excuses at this point for 26 years of mediocrity.

My goodness, their schedule is comically bad. And 15 points against BYU? That's impressive. I wouldn't be shocked if Clemson beats them by 20+

SMU would have lost AT LEAST 3 with our schedule. Notre Dame, SC and tu.

If you follow Sagarin power ratings:

SMU goes 9-3 playing our schedule.

Losing to ND by 3, SoCar by 1, and tx by 3.

If I watched TCU play????

TCU was close to winning the National Championship because they won the National Semi-Final game against Michigan.

That reminds me: Has Texas A&M ever made the CFP?
Has A&M ever won a National Semi-Final Game against a school like Michigan?

Texas fled the BIGXII because TCU and Baylor were regularly kicking their ass in the new BIGXII, and Baylor was starting to pull away from them in mens and womens hoops.

Its one thing if OU wins National Championships....but when Texas Tech, Baylor and TCU are playing for National Championships in Football and basketball.....well it might be time for the Horns to duck on out.

UT (2009-23) went 14 years between BIGXII Championships.....and they might win the SEC in their first year.
