Not a wait til next year thread…

Because next year our schedule is an absolute beating:

UTSA
Utah State
Tarleton State
Auburn
Florida
Mississippi State
South Carolina

at Notre Dame (who it turns out is legit)
at LSU
at Arkansas
at Missouri
at Texas

We might not win a road game next year…which would put us at 7 straight road losses.

I hope Elko has a plan for the offseason.

That's going to be one of those 5 win seasons.

That is not a hard schedule. We avoid bama, ga, ole miss, tenn. 2026 is a killler

It's hard to really give a ***** We were 7-1 and finished 8-4. Our recruiting class is solid but won't move the needle. There needs to be a MASSIVE culture shift if anything is going to change.

It is a hard schedule. We'll be playing probably 2-3 probable playoff teams on the road and we had our **** pushed in by two unranked teams this month when we were visiting. South Carolina, incidentally is looking competitive so that's not a gimme at home next year either.

We did that this year too and look where it got us.

Oh, goodie, when we go 8-4 next year, everyone will say Elko did a great job because of the hard schedule.

Swapping home and away but keeping the exact same opponents does not change SOS nearly as much as swapping in harder opponents. I can't understand why people keep trotting out this narrative that next year is going to be a gauntlet against the exact same teams that provided one of the easiest SEC schedules.

Yes, the likelihood of road losses is higher when it is the tougher opponents. But the likelihood of home wins is also higher, because you combine the weaker opponents with your home field advantage. See how that works? What it amounts to is probably about the same number of wins. To predict 5-7 based purely on the the home/road flip is stupid

Our 2 permanent teams are LSU/texas

So we are likely going to be playing some combo of bama/ga/Ole Miss/Tenn

This year/next will be our easiest SEC team combs. 2026 will be much more difficult.

Almost every SEC team will be playing 2-3 playoff teams every year. This was the year to do something and we could not even score an offensive point at HOME and at NIGHT and with 109K filled stadium.

Not necessarily. Texas only played one this year - Georgia.

You are still thinking about Alabama as Saban Bama. They aren't, they're Deboer Bama now. Saban's dynasty was unreal and I did not expect that to continue after he left…because how many people have done what he has? I think they'll still be top half of SEC, but they're in a bigger dogfight now to find a place in the playoff.

You keep bringing up 2026. Has the SEC decided what format they're using? How do you know who we're playing?

We are basically trading Arizona State for Notre Dame. I don't know how good ASU will be in 2026, but I expect Notre Dame will still be good in ~10 months.

Which is basically true of everything/one in 2026. It's too far away, especially in the age of transfer portal, coaching carousel, etc. Will OU get their **** together? Will Kiffin still be at Ole Miss?

Outside of ND, that's as easy a schedule as we can hope for.

We play 1 of this years top 5 SEC teams? Ya, real tough

USC looks like it will be tough
ND for sure
Arkansas always is
LSU not so sure (they could be falling apart)
Missouri maybe but not so sure
tu of course

So 4 pre-season tough games just like we expected this year and 2 maybes. Tougher than this year for sure but still an easier SEC schedule.

6-6, 7-5, and 8-4 should be sufficient reason to send Elko and Company packing. Especially given how the season played out this year.

Go join the MWC or the PAC. It's less expensive to be mediocre in those conferences.
I know nothing!

The Aggies have an all-time record of 785 wins, 505 losses, and 48 ties, for a winning percentage of .605.

The Aggies are 8-4 this season for a winning percentage of .667.

My bet is they'll be 8-4 or 7-5 next season. And the season after that. And the one after that. And so on. Sprinkle in an occasional 10-2 and 5-7.
