I was at that game, and without hearing any announcers we were losing our minds watching our players slip all over the place while the sips seemed to have no issues

With no playoff it was pretty hard to control your own destiny

There were undefeated teams tgst never win the natty because it was voted on

We went 12-0 in the 1992 regular season by were ranked 4th and had no shot at the natty even if we had beaten notre dame in our bowl game because bama and Miami were ranked 1 and 2 and were playing in the sugar bowl (it was a year tgst. Tu ally worked out naturally) : winner was going to be crowned champ

It was a bit before my time but didn't we start off like 10-0 in 1975 and blow it the last game vs arky. at the time we were ranked i think number 2 in the nation had we won against arky i think we would have had a shot to play for a natty. we controlled our own destiny and lost i think 31-6? like i said a year or two before i was born but i think i had read this info before.

Yep, I forget the reason, maybe TV since they only televised one game a week back then, but the sip game got moved up and we were so elated about beating the sips that we went out and laid a giant egg in Fayetteville the following week.

A lot of folks will argue, and with good reason, that that loss to Arkansas set us back tremendously as a program. Remember, this was just a few years after scholarship limits and integration in the south so had A&M beaten Arky and gone on to possibly win the national championship, we could have established ourselves as a marquee program in that new age of college football.

Instead, we lost and the program fell off resulting in the 40+ year cycle of firing a coach, hiring a new coach who shows signs of improvement early, but then ultimately falling short when the opportunity to break through arises, then the success starts to wane and we rinse and repeat.

Basically correct. TV was the reason. But the t.u. game did not move. The Arkansas game got moved BACK from somewhere in mid-season to the final regular season game, with TV coverage. In Arkansas. Ags came crashing down off the 20-10 win over the sips. It sucked. Still does.

If we win our next 5 games, we win the national championship.

We were technically in conversation but didn't have a realistic shot at MNC in 1998 even had we beat Texas.
We enterted the game vs Tx ranked 5th behind Tennesse, UCLA, Kansas State, and Florida State.
Had we beat Texas and everything else happened exactly the same , Miami beating UCLA and us beating Kansas state it still would have been Tennesse and Florida State meeting in the MNC game.
Florida state was ahead of us and had a win over us on a neutral field .. Ags were not jumping them.

1998 was great year but not an answer to this question

Best case scenario:
We beat tu then Georgia and secure the 3 seed and a bye. SEC Champs.
Oregon is 1 seed hosting 9 tu at 8 ND
Ariz St is 4 seed hosting 12 Boise at 5 Ohio St
Texas Aggies are 3 seed hosting 11 Tenn at 6 Penn St
Miami is 2 seed hosting 10 Indiana at 7'Georgia

I think most here agree 100% our only path is to win the SEC. Anything short of that then no , we are not making the playoff

I'm not talking about chances... I'm talking about who deserves to be there. Even if we win out, I don't think a team that loses to 6 loss Auburn deserves to be there. I'd say that about any team, not just the Aggies.
