You will run into a lot of sips that will declare their overall domination over the Aggies by quoting stuff like, "the Aggies would need to win the next 40 straight years in a row to finally catch up to the mighty Longhorns" and crap like that.

So...just a quick reminder that we ARE competitive with the whorns, and that they are just in denial.

Texas A&M vs. Texas Record:
All time: 37-76-5
First 80 games: 18-57-5
Since WW 2 (1946): 22-43-1
Since women were admitted into A&M (1964): 20-28
Since we landed on the Moon (1969): 19-24
Since scholarship limitations (1973): 19-20
Since Microsoft was Funded (1975): 19-18
Since Darrel K Royal's last game (1976): 18-18
Since ESPN first aired (1979): 17-16
Since cell phones exceed 1M users (1984): 15-13
Last two meetings: 1-1

Note: The first 21 games were played in Austin, San Antonio or Houston. Never in College Station.

Good perspective!

Obviously tu has the advantage in success outside of our rivalry (conf championships, national championships, playoff appearances) - but the head-to-head game is essentially even across most of our lifetimes.

Yes most of their wins came in the early 1900s when you might play the same team three times in a season, due to general difficulty of traveling long distances. tu fans conveniently disregard this.

All time doesn't really count.

One school stopped playing games and fought a war.

Also, the last game was tainted by that phantom personal foul.

I like to refer to it as "tu's dominance during the horse and buggy days"

Sip fans that crow about all time scoreboard are no different than Yankees fans bringing up all the rings they got when 10 of them were before WW2 ended.

Did we play sip several times during the same season? Would love to know the numbers behind that.

Not comparing the 2, as the Yankees actually dominated for 10-20 years in recent memory. Sip isn't even close to that.

personally i use 1979 title 9 as the date to which this rivalry can be viewed as modern or semi fair if you will. before that there were to many other variables that made the rivalry one sided.

*Most of their wins came...when we were an all male Military College with no females enrolled.

Seems like that's an additional point that just might have had an impact.

The first meeting was in 1894. By 1911, Texas led the series 1542. The series went back and forth until 1939, with games overwhelmingly won by the home team, but Texas still led 27-15-4. UT Dominated the rivalry over the next 4 decades with a 3671 record. A&M enjoyed their greatest success in the series thereafter from 19841994 with a 101 run. From there on Texas won 12 of the last 17 between the two programs, including 5 of the last 6 meetings in College Station. Hopefully, we beat Texas for the first time since a 24-17 road win on 11/25/2010 and at home for the first time since a 38-30 home win on 11/23/2007.

Notre Dame didn't become coed until the early 70s and they were the dominant face of college football in the 20th century. And anyone can pick arbitrary numbers to skew stats. And it also cracks me up that people want to say "who cares what happened in the old days?" when there are national championship claims on the stadium from before 1920.

Thanks for posting this, OP.

Let's hope younger Ags really let that context sink in. As an Ag of the 1990s, we knew we were on par with Texas. But they love their delusion and like to point to the all-time record incessantly in a vain attempt to hopefully infuse some sort of inferiority feelings.

I start the "record clock" at 1975, as your stats allude to. Simply, even though the migration from an all-male military institute began in 1965, it's not like the school just instantaneously changed, where it could draw the best athletes and compete in the recruiting wars with any large state university. Scholarship limitations in 1973 was a huge leveling factor. A cousin of mine was a 1975 graduate, and by her accounts, about the time Texas A&M really felt like a true, co-ed state university.

Of course, any sip you cross will be dismissive about this, in my opinion, making them look stupid. But hopefully no younger Ag buys into the "little brother" and "all-time record" BS.

I just turn it around on them when they lose. I just tell them don't worry about it because y'all beat us a lot 80 years ago. That's all that matters.

When I say it back to them they understand how ridiculous they are.

The record is what it is.
Sure, some of it is explainable, but getting too far into that just sounds like coping.

Simple enough to say that the record is 19-19 in the last half century. Don't need to get into the hows and whys or anything before that.

I like the point of the OP

All that said, if we're taking an honest look in the mirror, there are a lot of mental gymnastics needed to justify the points being made in this thread and our inferior performance overall.

It's nice to see the trend in our performance against whorn has changed for the better.

They are marching straight into a buzzsaw on Saturday. If it's going to be a one-sided game, we all know which team has the upside.

Notre Dame is next door to St Mary's College, founded two years after Notre Dame, so academically Men only, but there was always a coed social environment.

Title 9 was passed in 1972
Last Medal of Honor recipient graduates 1973
First year AP and Coaches poll decide champ AFTER bowl games is 1974

I start counting from there
That's 50 years and the record is 19-19

Let's not forget the Sips refused to play Texas A&M after Charlie Moran beat them a few times. Overall records don't mean much when you cancel an ongoing series because you're losing. Both LSU and Texas refused to play A&M due to losing.

Can somebody bump the thread that recounts all the different days the game has been played
I know it has been played
T,T+1, T+ 2 and T +9 but not certain if I am missing any or the actual # of games
I think T+9 is twice
T+1 is about 6
And T is the overwhelming majority but having actual numbers would be nice

It's adorable when you sometimes forget you're a t-shirt sip posting as a disgruntled Aggie, then accidentally break character and just post as a t-shirt sip. Weird and painfully awkward, yet adorable in a benign psychopathic way. Bless your little heart.

Sounds like the best and easiest explanation.

Tied up over the last half century once things like admissions policies and scholarship limits were made fair and square.

So let's TAKE THE LEAD tomorrow and BTHO tu!!!
